Cape Town has become one of my favorite destinations in the world. Tokyo is number 1 because it is so cutesy and animated but Cape Town is a close second. The only reason why Cape Town might possibly beat Tokyo in the future is the fact that Cape Town is cheaper and very scenic. Even though public transport is not the most accessible in Cape Town, it is easy to rent a car and Uber is cheap. I used Europcar via Expedia for my car rental services.

I will advise renting a car over using Uber because this makes it easier to drive along the coast of this beautiful city and take in the gorgeous views.

I met up with their PR Strategist, Sam. Sam was amazing! He showed me the beautiful city of Cape Town from a local’s perspective because he had been living in the city for 4 years.

I have got a lot of questions from social media about my Cape Town experience. My itinerary is outlined below:

Day One

Oranjezicht City Farm Market

The Oranjezicht city farm market opens every Saturday from 9AM – 2PM. The market is amazing. The have a wide variety of food, refreshing drinks, bread, nuts and fruits. I ate a lot of food and drank delicious smoothies from the market. It was affordable too just like a lot of things in Cape Town. The market is close to V&A waterfront so I strolled to V&A from there.

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfronts (V&A)

The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront is lovely. It has a Ferris wheel which offers panoramic views of the city. I did not get on the Ferris wheel because you can see views of the city for free from Signal Hill and Lion’s head. I did eat at the waterfront and had a beer and let me tell you- the best beer ever. The at the waterfront restaurant makes the beer. There is also a market at the waterfront where they sell food and snacks.

Old Biscuit Mill/Woodstock

Who would have thought Cape Town was a foodie heaven? Old biscuit mill was indeed a foodie heaven. Imagine leaving Oranjezicht City Farm Market and V&A Water Front and thinking I will go to Old Biscuit Mill for souvenirs and hand crafted goods only to find out that they had a whole food court? The food court is extensive. I definitely ate and drank my way around.

Bo-Kaap

Bo-Kaap is a very famous Cape Town neighborhood with colorful houses. It was known as the Malay Quarter. The neighborhood dates back to the 1760s when a lot of the houses were built and leased to slaves. They slaves were known as “Cape Malays” because they were brought in from Malaysia, Indonesia and other parts of Africa to work in Cape Town. It is believed that after the slaves got their freedom, they were allowed to paint the houses from white to whatever colors they wanted by their previous owners as an expression of their freedom. Souvenirs like paintings can also be purchased in the Bo-Kaap neighborhood.

Day Two

I got on the hop on hop off bus on the 2nd day. This activity was sponsored by Travel Start.

The hop on hop off bus is a great way to see Cape Town if you have a short time in the city. Visitors can hop on hop off and see the city in a day and this leaves time for participating in other activities like wine tasting for other days. I took the red route around the city. The red route starts from long street and makes stops at the following places:

• Table Mountain
• Camps Bay
• President Hotel
• V&A Waterfront
• The Clock Tower
• Cape Town Convention Center
• St Johns road
• Winchester Mansions Hotel
• Green Point

There is also a downtown city tour which is the yellow bus. It’s awesome for sightseeing downtown Cape Town. The routes are:

• Long Street
• St George’s Cathedral
• SA Museum
• Mount Nelson Hotel
• SA Jewish Museum
• District Six Museum
• Castle of Good Hope

Signal Hill

After a long day of sightseeing on the hop on and hop off bus, I met up with my friend Joy who I met on Instagram. She took me to Signal Hill to spend the evening. It’s easy to get to signal hill with a rental car. Driving to the top of the hill is steep but the views of the city from the top is amazing!

Day Three

I rented a car so I could drive to Stellenbosch for Wine Tasting. I visited J.C Le Roux which was sponsored by Travel Start. The experience at J.C Le Roux included nougat tasting which was accompanied by wine. I tasted 5 different types of wine and indulged in 5 different types of chocolates. Each wine is paired with a different type of nougat.

After visiting J.C Le Roux, I visited Babylonstoren for more wine tasting. I visited several vineyards because wine tasting in Cape Town is very affordable

Day Four

On the 4th day, I got in the rental car and drove through Chapman’s peak drive. The drive to Chapman’s Peak is breathtaking. There are several opportunities to park by the roadside at several points on Chapman’s peak drive for amazing pictures. Chapman’s peak drive is probably one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen.

Cape Point Vineyard and Groot Constantina

After Chapman’s peak drive, I visited Cape Point Vineyard and Groot Constantina for wine tasting. I heard good reviews about both Groot Constantina and Cape Point therefore I decided to visit.

I obviously enjoyed my wine tasting experience in South Africa and it should not be missed. South Africa is not only a heaven for food lovers, but it also a heaven for wine lovers.

Bars

The bars I visited in Cape Town include:

• The Viu- The view is amazing
• Asoka- I enjoyed the vibe
• Cubana- for delicious food, drinks and hookah
• Long Street for bar hopping- For a long night of bar hopping
• Simmy Beach Club- a little out of the way and hard to find
• Capri- for a different experience outside of central Cape Town

Things to note

• South Africans drive on the left side of the road which is different from the right side that I am used to. It took a little bit of time to adjust to.
• Google maps works well in Cape Town so it makes renting a car easy.
• The roads are really good in Cape Town but it’s also very hilly.
• I use T-mobile One International Plan so I was able to use my service on 4G LTE and 3G in Cape Town. I pay a standard fee a month and I get high speed internet abroad
• Uber is pretty cheap in Cape Town and I was told the transit is not the safest. I am not sure how true it is because I used Uber and rented a car for convenience.
• I did not pay for Table Mountain because you can see views of the city for free from Lions head or Signal Hill.
• You have to pay a small fee to drive through Chapman’s Peak. The fee is a toll charge.
• Cape Town is currently experiencing water crisis. If you plan to visit, be prepared to see water saving posters all over the city and also be prepared to experience water saving measures. Taps are turned off in some of the vineyards in order to save water.

As you can see, there are SO many things to do in Cape Town. Here is a list of things I wish I did but couldn’t because of time:
