Honky Tonkin Our Way Into 2020

What a morning it was on the 1st of January 2020. There was challah french toast, mimosas and oh so yummy bacon. It’s great to have family all over when you love to travel. Not only do you get a chance to visit them, but they will always have an air mattress for you to sleep on. Luckily they were just a 4 hour drive from the cabin and about 20 minutes from Nashville.

Nashville is a big crazy city that my aunt and uncle didn’t even want to come with us. That’s why it was such a surprise to actually find a street parking spot right off of Broadway and 3rd. I can’t get over how pretty the buildings are that even the post office was gorgeous. You don’t get buildings like that in South Florida. I began to reminisce when I was a child growing up in Massachusetts where everything was old and beautiful like the library, my old middle school, the court house etc. We walked over to Broadway from our parking spot and immediately noticed that most of the honky tonks were named after all the current famous country singers. Rob and I are fans of country Music so it was pretty exciting hearing all the familiar songs coming out of each building with their doors and windows open as well as blaring music coming from all the rooftop bars. Most of the bars had several stories and bands on each floor. It was country music heaven.

We started on one end of the Street and did our best to stop in and listen to a song in every honky tonk but it was New Year’s Day so you can imagine how packed it was. That’s the amazing thing about music city, you will not find a bad cover band anywhere, like most of us have to endure back wherever we come from. Each bar had really talented artists with signs advertising their social media, just trying to get their big break.

We can’t speak for the food because the wait everywhere was much too long and the beer was much to basic for us beer snobs (at least in the bars we were able to reach). As the sun began to set our Florida blood grew colder and our tummy’s more hangry. My uncle laughed when we confirmed we’d be back for dinner, “too cold eh?” “Yup” we responded.

Kenny Chesney is supposed to be playing a concert in Tennessee this June so maybe that will be a better time to come back and get to hang out on some of those roof top bars. We’re hoping we can save up for that trip because there is talk about coming back up to the cabin in the spring time so why not make it one big trip?
