How we love this mountain air. We can breath so much easier up here. It’s too bad we’re so far from a cruise port and a boat ramp to launch Luna or we would be up here in a heart beat! I pictured us being those snow bird couples that contribute to the winter traffic and spend the whole winter in south FL and leave the moment the north starts to warm up. I think this morning we woke up closer to 11am but we weren’t in that much of a rush so we took the time to have a wonderful breakfast. I think that’s my favorite part of being on vacation especially when we are up here.
We start our 4 1/2 hour drive to the Nashville, TN area around noon. It’s New Years Eve so as long as we make it to my Aunt’s before dinner time then we were solid. I heard there was going to be prime grade meat on the menu so maybe there was a little rush. Going anywhere around these parts isn’t just hopping on i95 and heading toward your destination. Most of the driving is through small towns and the largest roads are maybe 4 lanes. But, we’re not complaining because the sites were something to see. Even the rest areas had awesome views of the mountains and lakes.
There was zero reception through the Cherokee National Forest but that was perfectly fine because I kept us entertained by constantly telling Rob to Pull over. I wanted to take pictures of all the gorgeous views. That area is big for white water rafting so on top of all the businesses (that were closed for the season), there were tons of scenic overlooks to pull over and take in the sites.
When we made it through McCaysville we saw something that only still existed in movies, a street evangelist. I had to pull down the window and record in hopes that I could hear him preach as we drove by. Rob was defiantly laughing at me but I’ve only seen that in movies, so it was exciting for me to see that in person.
We arrived at my Aunt’s around 5pm. Just in time for my uncle to get home and put me to work in the kitchen.

There was even our very own home made note drop that one of the kids made. One of their traditions was to eat 12 grapes each representing the 12 months to come. When you get a sour grape, that month will be a bad one. Luckily for me, all my grapes were sweet.
