2019 Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show Favorites – Part 1

At last, the 2019 Ft. Lauderdale International Boat Show is back for its 60th year and we spent today searching for unique finds. But before we get into that, let’s talk quickly about parking and getting around the Ft. Lauderdale area if you plan on visiting the boat show this year.

Parking and getting around

Last year the dockless scooters made their debut in Ft. Lauderdale at the boat show and it was amazing! We got to scoot to and from our parking spot to the beach and it was fast and cheap. This year, the scooters are not aloud on the beach so don’t try to take them. We parked downtown and hopped on a scooter hoping we can get close but as we neared the bridge on Las Olas Blvd., they stopped working and we had to walk them back the be able to end the ride. It also cost each of us about $9 each so taking an Uber or Lyft would have been cheaper.

There are many places to park that offer free shuttles, consider those. If you drive down to the beach you will find parking as high as $75! So do a little research before you make your way down.

The other option is the Water Taxi which we will be using on Saturday. They charge $12 for the whole day and you don’t have to deal with the aggravation of traffic and disgruntled traffic cops constantly yelling at you.

Our Favorites

Let’s get right to it shall we? There are endless amounts of booths and boats that are sure to delight any nautical aficionado. If your looking for electronics like chart plotters, radar and auto pilots then you might want to check out the electronics tent. It’s all in one place. But there are tons of other neat things to see all over the largest in water boat show in the world.

Here’s a list of today’s favorites.

1.  Boston Wheeler

This all-terrain boat caught our attention mainly because of the name (Wheeler), then we noticed afterwards that is amphibious with what they call “medical grade engineering.”

2.  Seabags

Don’t know what to do with your old sails, have a sea bag made. We did! After trading in our old sail, we picked up our amazing sea bag this afternoon and found out they work a lot with charitable organizations too!

3.  Flite Board

We had to stop and see this cool new Electric hydrofoil. A bit above our pay grade, this mostly carbon fiber toy was still exciting to see.

4.  Spurs

We stopped in our tracks when we saw the gentleman cutting line with a prop sitting on the table. It’s a neat invention that cuts any line or net that would otherwise foul your prop.

5.  Nautical Ventures

The aqua zone sponsored by Nautical Ventures is definitely a fun spot to stop at with their huge pool set up for the show every year. It’s filled will the coolest toys and are constantly having someone demo them! They are local and we visit their shop often but its always fun to see the neat shows they put on.

6.  Jupiter Bikes

We had some fun test riding these great electric bikes just across the way from the aqua zone.

7.  Paddle North Paddle Boards

These inflatable paddle boards caught our eye with the paddle ship. It hold 8 people comfortable as well as any coolers. The material they use is very pet friendly and handles it self well with claws and rocks.

8.  Duffy Boats

America’s electric boat since 1970. I forced Robert to go back to the Bahia Mar side of the show before we went home for the day just so I can see these boats again! We saw them last year and fell in love with the whole concept of electric launch style boats.
