Museums to Visit When You’re in Ohio

If there’s one thing that you’ll find across Ohio in multiple locations, it’s amazing museums. These museums can run for both children and for adults, and they offer exciting and educational environments for visitors no matter where they’re from. 

If your thing is music and art, you’ll love the whole of fame here. If your thing is science and history, then you better check out the Cleveland Natural History Museum hours before you arrive! The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery can have something to pique your interest for the science buffs out there. If you’re heading to the Buckeye State, take a look at these museums to visit when you’re in Ohio so that you can make your list in advance.

  1. The Centre of Science and Industry in Columbus, OH. This is a great Science Museum, especially for kids, but they do have plenty of interesting events for adults to enjoy as well.Every month, for example on the first Thursday, they have the Center of Science and Industry After Dark event for over 20 ones. They have a state-of-the-art planetarium, a high wire unicycle and a National Geographic Giant Screen Theatre.
  2. Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, OH. This was actually rated as one of the top 10 best art museums across America. It ranks in the top 3% of all art museums in North America itself, with rotating exhibits all year round. If you’re looking for something with high levels of culture, then the Dayton Art Institute is where you want to sink your teeth into. Their collection spans 5000 years worth of art history from cultures all over the globe.
  3. The National Museum of the US Air Force, Dayton, OH. World War One buffs will love all of the planes and zeppelins at this particular museum. There’s a space gallery too, so you can check out the history of space travel. If you love to look at concept planes, then the R&D Gallery is right there for you. And for those who love things a little bit more explosive, the Missile Gallery is also hosted here.
  4. The Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, OH. Home to more than 45,000 permanent exhibits, the Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the best places that you can visit if you are an art buff. 20 years ago they acquired an ancient bronze sculpture of Apollo Sauroktonos, which is as old as time itself.
  5. The Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. If you’re looking for a natural museum, the Franklin Park Conservatory offers over 400 plant species from the Himalayas, the tropical rainforests, the deserts, and the Pacific Islands. There’s something for every nature above here, so don’t forget to visit.
  6. Museum of Discovery, Dayton, OH. This is a combo of a children’s museum, Science Centre and zoo. There are 60 species of animals that are native to Ohio and you’ll find them all here. For the space lovers among you, check out the Hall of the Universe. There’s even a tidal pool to learn about sea stars, anemones and ocean life.
