Sinthan: A snow clad mountain pass in Kashmir

Kashmir valley seems to be slowly and steadily restoring its lost glory that it held on the world tourism map leaving behind a forlorn history that was symbolic of lack of attention towards its beauty.

Sinthan, is yet to be added as a tourist spot, but it attracts a sizeable chunk of local and foreign travellers every year. It is 132 kilometres away from the summer capital Srinagar and 70 kilometres from famous botanical garden Kokernag.

Around 40 kilometres of zigzag and uphill drive from Daksum, it is in midway on the Kishtwar- Srinagar road. The journey to Sinthan Top is in itself an experience and on reaching the top it is of a 360 degree view, and snow everywhere.

For most times of the year, the road to Sinthan remains closed due to heavy snowfall in the area; the best time to visit the place is April- September. It offers tourists a wonderful opportunity to explore the vast terrains of the exotic mountain ranges that is endowed with natural scenic beauty.

The unique landscape of Sinthan Top also encourages one to find out inherent sporting calibre. The area also offers tourists to choose from a plethora of adventurous sporting events such as trekking and mountain climbing.

One big advantage of Sinthan Top is that places like Daksum, Kokernag, and Achabal fall en-route, which give tourists a varied choice of resting and making travel more enjoyable.

The Snow Clad Sinthan offers tourists to enjoy their sojourn into the exotic landscape coupled with unlimited fun and frolic.

There is Arshan Mode (Curve) near Sinthan Top that leads to Famar Valley. The high mountains through this area offer tourists to trek along the rough and rugged terrain of the huge ranges. Steep trekking ascending up to Kaadihajan mountain range and descends towards Famar Valley, where one can enjoy the beautiful view of the multiple lakes including Deaf Lake (Zeyd naag), Black Lake (Koun naag), Dry Lake (Hukh sar) and many other lakes and scenic beauty.

Chingam, a small hamlet is in midway between Sinthan Top and Kishtwar/ Chatroo. It is the most beautiful valley with lush green forests and crystal clear water, which adds more charm to its beauty. After exploring such beauty Jahangir’s famous quote for Kashmir, sounds very true, “if there be paradise anywhere on earth; it is here, it is here, and it is here.”

A number of small villages surrounding Chingam are deep embedded into forests. It is connected to Jammu via Kishtwar all around the year but Srinagar route remains closed in winter due to heavy snowfall.
