Jaigarh Fort is located on the top of the hill, by the name of Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles). Jaigarh Fort is also known as the ‘Victory Fort’, located at a comfortable distance of 15kms from Jaipur. Jaigarh Fort is considered as one of the spectacular forts in India.

How to Reach: Jaipur can be reached easily from any nearby city as it has its own airport and railway station. Jaigarh Fort can be reached from anywhere in Jaipur by a wide network of roads .

The Jaigarh fort was built to bolster up the defense of Amer, so one should not be amazed to find that the fort unlike most palaces and forts of Jaipur is quite plain and simple. It has moats and all the features you would expect of a full-fledged citadel.

Since Jaipur was one of the main weapon producing centers for the Mughals and the Rajputs, Jaigarh fort has several weapons on display. One of the military structures of medieval India, the Jaigarh fort contains palaces, a granary, a well-planned cannon foundry, several temples, a tall tower, etc. Also in the fort, is Jai Ban (Jaivan), the largest cannon in the world. There is a vast collection of canons in the Jaigarh fort of Jaipur, Rajasthan that is exquisitely decorated.

Jaigarh fort served as the royal treasury for a number of years. The fort houses a rich collection of puppets and ancient coins. Connecting the various palaces of the fort is a number of passageways. Also, there is a huge moat surrounding the fort. The Jaigarh fort remained sealed for almost seven years. The reason was a rumor that a huge treasure of gold was buried in the fort. However, after many searches and excavations, the government found nothing. The fort has been opened to public since the past few years only.

Durbar Hall(Museum): The fort museum has an extensive collection of illuminated manuscripts, jewelry, jars and carpets, arms and weapons, treaties, decorations and the ‘Farmans’ (original manuscripts of the orders issued by the royal family). This museum also has valuable miniature paintings and rare antiques.

Other major palaces in the compound are Chandra Mahal, Phool Mahal, Karan Mahal, Durga Niwas and Ganga Niwas.
