Young Chef Olympiad 2019 – It’s back !

International Institute of Hotel Management ( IIHM) is back with the World’s biggest culinary competition – Young Chef Olympiad (YCO) 2019. This annual Olympiad is an extravaganza bringing together talented Young Chef’s from across the globe to showcase their best ! The fifth edition of the Olympiad will be held across 4 cities – Delhi, Pune, Bangalore and Kolkata from 28th January to 2nd February 2019.

This year’s competition will see student chef’s from 55 countries competing for a cash prize of USD10,000 and the coveted YCO 2019 winner’s trophy ! The event is being organized by IIHM in partnership with the International Hospitality Council London and is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. At the press meet held at IIHM Bangalore, Dr Suborno Bose – Chairman – IIHM who has been instrumental in bringing this concept alive winning laurels at world stage addressed the gathering along with Sanchari Chowdhury – IIHM Bangalore director, Chef Abhijit Saha who is one of the elite judges with the Olympiad, Mr.Abdullah Ahmed – Director, IIHM Delhi and Chef Avijit Ghosh, another elite judge in the panel with Madhumita, who is representing India at one of the toughest culinary competitions ever ! Also present was Mr Suresh Hinduja who has been an inspiration for folks at IIHM with his support and culinary guidance. The 55 nations have been divided into six groups from A to F through a draw that was held at London.

Bangalore Press Meet

The Opening Ceremony will take place at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi on 28th January followed by three days of intense culinary challenges. Two rounds will be held at Delhi, Pune and Bengaluru while Kolkata will be the host to the finals and the closing ceremony where the winner will be announced. Bengaluru will host participants from 10 countries who have been categorized as Group ‘F’ and they are from

  • Ireland
  • Nepal
  • France
  • Uganda
  • Italy
  • Turkey
  • Seychelles
  • Jordan
  • Bhutan
  • Ghana

It was great to hear Dr.Bose share his insights and details on YCO along with the rest of the dignitaries present at the Press meet which also saw the YCO Anthem being revealed.

The Olympiad will also see some of the best Internationally Renowned Chef as Judges like Chef John Wood, Chef Scott Baechler, Chef Enrico Bricarello along with Chef Avijit Ghosh, Chef Abhijit Saha, Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, Chef Ranveer Brar amongst others.

The meet concluded with a sumptuous lunch prepared by the IIHM Bangalore students who are raising the bar in every other event that is taking place
