I have complied a list of Fort Hood Area Military Marriage Services that consists of civilian providers offering services to our military families here at Fort Hood for free.

Many service members refuse to go to marriage counseling because they think their command will find out that there is trouble at home or fellow service members will find out and poke fun at their marriage issues. While the military has gotten better at providing services for families, the truth is that those services are still usually located on post which means having their buddies or command staff see them and they are usually backlogged.

That is why I have scoured the internet to try to find services that are offered both on Fort Hood and out in the civilian world here at Fort Hood. And while most are Fort Hood specific, some are national.

Remember, you don’t need to be smack dab in the middle of having marriage problems, sometimes many of us just want to better our marriage so we can grow as a couple when absolutely nothing is wrong; which is awesome!

So here are some Fort Hood area military marriage services I have found.

Healing Our Hero’s Project (H.O.H.P) Retreats – FREE – We serve our military community through recreational therapeutic retreats. HOHP mission is to provide support through relaxation and recreational activities to active duty military, veterans, their spouses, and children while in a convivial therapeutic atmosphere.

Military Marriage Enrichment Classes – FREE – Marriage Management is typically a one-day marriage retreat.  It is not counseling, but a lively, enjoyable, interactive marriage education training.  It is only for Veteran and Military members and their spouses or partners.  Follow-up tools and manuals are provided at no cost. Side Note: We have personally gone to this class. It was awesome and we learned so much. I just happened to stumble across it one day and saw they were coming to Fort Hood, so I called my husband and asked him if he wanted to go, he said yes (he loves doing these retreats). However, the one we went to was located on Fort Hood and not out in town. However, they are not affiliated with the Military.

Military & Family Life Counseling– FREE – The Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC) Program is designed to provide support and assistance to active duty Soldiers, National Guard & Reserves, military Family Members and civilian personnel. Military and Family Life Consultants can help people who are having trouble coping with concerns and issues of daily life. Located on Fort Hood and ran by the MWR.

Military OneSource – FREE – Call for free referral to a counselor. Confidential non-medical counseling provides service members and their loved ones with resources and support to address a variety of issues and build important skills to tackle life’s challenges. Sessions are available through the Military and Family Life Counseling Program at installations worldwide and through Military OneSource. They do ask for the sponsors rank, and unit so just beware ( I have no idea what they do with that information). Affiliated with the Military. I would recommend just picking a counselor of your choice out in town that takes Tricare. You can self refer for mental health (you do not need a referral from your PCM). We personally have used Military OneSource and found it useless. Plus we were very uncomfortable with them asking for unit information and all the service member information. 

Scott & White Military Homefront Services – FREE – designed and implemented by Scott & White Healthcare and the Central Texas Fort Hood Chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) to provide individual, marital and family  counseling to those who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan post 9/11. Not affiliated with the Military.

Marriage Ministry at Grace Bible Church – FREE – They host seasonal marriage events and classes to encourage couples to learn how to “die to self” and love their spouse well. Several different programs are offered as well as nonprofessional counseling.
