Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin, Texas

Zilker Botanical Garden in Austin was established in 1955 and is 26 acres of beautiful topography.

We went in February, long before all the beautiful blooms of Spring, but still found the place absolutely beautiful. We can’t wait to go back when everything is in bloom!

There are several theme gardens such as the rose garden, herb garden and Japanese garden all of which are interconnected with streams, waterfalls and Koi-filled ponds.

If you are a photographer you definitly do not want to miss out visiting. They even allow photo sessions which only requires a small permit fee of $50. You will need to register with the Zilker Botanical Garden Event Office in order to be allowed to take photographs at the Garden. The actual registration is free, but you will need to purchase the permit.

However, if you wish to film and video at Zilker Botanical Garden then a City permit is also required.

I am not exatcly sure how many miles of walking trails through the garden there are. I think when we visited we walked about 2 miles, although we did not walk all of the paths.

Our Overall Thoughts

We will definitly be back. It is beautiful at anytime of year, however, I can only imagine how beautiful it is when everything is in bloom.

The garden also sits in the middle of Zilker Park which is 350 acres that offers volleyball courts, grills and picnic areas, soccer areas, an off-leash dog park, bridges, trails, a giant lake, broadway plays, sculptures, gardens, frisbee golf, a miniature train and many other ammentites that you can enjoy if you plan on making a day trip out of it!
