Colorado Bend State Park | Camping & Hiking Trails

It only took us 3 years, but we finally made it to Colorado Bend State Park to do some day hiking.

The park is 5,328.3-acres with 6 miles of river front and has over 35 miles of trails. The park also offers primitive camping, hiking, mountain biking, caving (by tour only), fishing, swimming, paddling, birding and wildlife viewing.

We still have a lot to explore, so make sure to check back!

Gorman Falls

The main feature of the park and what everyone wants to see is Gorman Falls. The hike to Gorman Falls is 3 miles over rugged terrain, but the view is amazing! The climb down to the falls and back up is steep and rocky, however, they do have a hand rail to help you. Remember as you are going down to yield the right of way to hikers going up!

Just a side note, bikes are not allowed on a portion of the trail leading to Gorman Falls and you are not allowed to wade/swim in the falls or the pools. There are security cameras located at the falls and the fine for wading or swimming in them is pretty darn steep.

Camping

The park has 65 campsites, 3 group primitive campsites and has 2 primitive campsite areas for overnight backpackers. There are no hookups of any kind at any of the campsites. Of the 65 campsites, 15 are drive up and allow for an RV max length of 30ft. RV’s must be self-contained as there are no hookups. The other 50 campsites are walk-in.

There is no dump station located in the park, however, there are toilets, a rinse off shower, and portable water nearby.
