Best Mountain viewpoints of Nepal

Nepal houses some of the highest peaks around the world; 14 out of highest 20 to be exact. Once you are visiting Nepal, the one thing you’d not want to miss is at least to get a glimpse of these beautiful giant peaks including the magnificent Mt. Fishtail, Ama Dablam, Annapurna and the mighty Everest itself. Here we list out some of the best mountain viewpoints of Nepal offering the best view of these peaks.

Kalapatthar:

Known as the vantage point of Everest, Kalapatthar is most trekker’s favorite spot for the view of Everest. Kalapatthar lies at an elevation of 5545m nearby Everest Base Camp. The viewpoint can be reached by people in good physical condition and without serious climbing skills. Kalapatthar can be reached by walking for 8 days from Lukla.

Gokyo Ri:

A bit farther from Everest Base Camp and lesser known and visited than Kalapatthar, Gokyo Ri lies at an elevation of 5483m. The view of Everest is spectacular and some consider it is better than Kalapatthar. Getting to Gokyo Ri is challenged by 8 days tough walking from Lukla but it will also reward with the magnificent views of Gokyo Lakes additional mountains Cho You, Lhotse, and Makalu.

Peekye Peak:

Declared as the best viewpoint by Sir Edmund Hilary, Peekye Peak lies at an elevation of 4065m. The viewpoint can be reached following the classic Everest Base Camp Trek via Jiri. The peak provides a panoramic mountain view including Everest, Dhaulagiri, and Kanchenjunga as well. Reaching to Peekye Peak requires 8 days trek.

Tengboche:

Tengboche situating at an elevation of 3864m is yet another famous view point en-route to Everest Base Camp. The place also houses the biggest Buddhist monastery in the region: Tengboche Monastery. The place offers a beautiful view of Mount Ama Dablam. Tengboche can be reached with 4 days trek from Lukla.

Nagarkot:

If you are visiting Nepal but you are limited with time, Nagarkot is the best option to get the glimpse of majestic mountains of Nepal. A one and half hour drive will take you to Nagarkot from Kathmandu. Here you will get to see the panoramic view of Himalayas on a clear day. The point is also considered ideal for sunrise and sunset view.

Poonhill:

Or if you are considering experiencing both the adventure of trek and views of mountains but don’t want it to be hectic and longer, Poonhill trek will be the best thing you can do. Poonhill can be reached by a 3 days trek and is the most popular trek in Nepal. Located at an elevation of 3210m, Poonhill offers the spectacular view of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna.
