Sex and Marriage: 5 Tips for Improving Intimacy with Your Spouse

Sex and Marriage can be thought of in healthy terms or hindering terms. How closely you see the two together can be a good indicator of the health of your marriage.

For instance, couples that have sex 58-68 times per year are happier than those who don’t, according to one study. If that’s not you, then it may be time to rethink your approach. Here are five helpful tips!

1. Open the Lines of Communication

Talking about sex might not seem like the hottest thing you can do in the bedroom, but it’s certainly one of the most effective. In marriage especially, things can get pretty stagnant as you both settle into your routines.

You can’t change the monotony of your sex life until you acknowledge it’s there. While it can be tough to talk about, one of you has to speak up.

2. Try New Things

Inevitably, you will find the conversation steering toward different sexual positions once the topic has been broached. That’s a good thing.

Part of what makes sex so bland in marriage is the obligatory nature and familiarity of it all. By throwing each other some curves and trying new positions than what you’re used to, you can reclaim spontaneity and adventure.

3. And Not Just in the Bedroom

Better sex life isn’t just about trying new things between the sheets. Sometimes it’s about getting out of your comfort zone and taking the show on the road!

Obviously, you don’t want to get yourself arrested. You should be willing to seek adventure elsewhere, however. Start small by doing the deed in a different room than you normally do or driving to a remote location, or role-playing.

4. Have Something to Look Forward To

You also may want to add some romantic getaway ideas to the action plan. These do not have to be every day, and they don’t have to be expensive.

The purpose is to give you both something you can look forward to together as you go about your daily routines. Those routines can be kryptonite to your love life, so if you see each day as a stepping stone toward the goal, you’ll be able to handle things more easily.

5. Devote Time and Energy to It

Sex for married couples is better when you make a point of devoting time and energy to it. Make it as much of a priority to your marriage as paying the bills.

It doesn’t have to be hot and steamy and “dangerous” every time you do it. But when you put the energy into spicing it up, the “routine” sex will improve as well.

One Last Thing, Guys

Obviously, marriage in the 21st Century is for everyone, so this section might not apply to you depending on your Relationship. If you’re the man in a gay or straight relationship, though, erections are important.

Fortunately, there are ways to improve your strength and sustainability in that department. Check out these ten tips for more information.

Sex and Marriage Should Go Together Like PB And J

Sex and marriage are too often spoken of in separate terms. That shouldn’t be! These two elements are important to any relationship and should go together like peanut butter and jelly.

If you feel your marriage needs a sexual pick-me-up, put the tips above to use and start building the love life of your dreams. For more relationship tips, check out some of our additional posts!
