The I/O developer’s conference by Google this year had a lot of exciting updates including those for Android users.

The company is launching its Private Space and vowed to enhance the device’s operating system in a manner where theft is kept at a bare minimum and security can be boosted with privacy under wraps too.

The latest protections have been divided into three different tiers. This includes how to make the device less attractive for thieves to steal.

The Android maker mentioned how upgrades to factory reset protections were being done so attackers wouldn’t be able to grab a hold of the stolen device before planned resale. This is because they wouldn’t be aware of any account credentials.

On the other end of the spectrum, Google spoke about enabling a longer screen timeout feature that would entail PIN or biometric authentication.

So a thief does have details or a hint about your password or PIN by seeing you try the unlock before, the device’s system would now need more biometrics for verification to get access to the device and alter crucial Google account details and options in the settings.

This includes a change to the PIN and also disabling Passkeys via locations that cannot be trusted. The latest updates and new private spaces will be rolled out as a part of the company’s Android 15 soon. And this would include all sorts of authentication protection to choose a particular device later on in the year.

Whenever a user’s device gets stolen, you can find a host of new offerings such as Locks for detecting theft. This alerts the user when the device is removed from your grip. Similarly, sensors are present to lock phones when a person makes an attempt to snatch and run away.

We also know about the latest detection lock system that works offline and would kick into play when a person steals the phone and switches the mobile phone off. This is done to stop anyone from accessing user data.

Such features are going to be a part of the company’s Android 10+ through Google Play’s latest update for the latter part of 2024.

More on this front includes another Remote Lock endeavor that’s much like Find My Device but works much faster when a device gets stolen. So many people today are said to be upset and depressed about devices going missing and therefore they cannot recall credentials at the moment from Google accounts to get access to in-built features like Find My Device.
