Apple Eyes Google's Gemini for iPhone Intelligence Boost

Apple is working on making its phones smarter with the help of Google's new tech, called Gemini. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, a reliable source for Apple news, the two companies are talking about how to add Gemini's smart features to iPhones later this year. Apple has also talked with another company, OpenAI, about a similar deal.

Even though Apple and Google compete in selling smartphones, they have worked together before. Google pays Apple billions every year so that Google's search engine is the first choice on Apple's Safari browser. The details about how Gemini will be used in iPhones are not decided yet. But when the news came out, Google's company value went up by more than 7% and Apple's by over 2%.

This move could make Gemini available to many more users. But it also shows that Apple might need more time to develop its own smart tech. There's also worry that this deal could lead to more government questions about whether the companies are too powerful.

Apple and Google haven't talked about these reports. Apple has been working on its own smart tech that doesn't need the internet to work. This is different from Google's new features for phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 8, which use the internet for smart features.

Google's Gemini faced some problems when it first came out, with people criticizing it for being biased. Google's boss, Sundar Pichai, said they would fix these issues.

The deal between Apple and Google could be checked by the government, as their current deal on search engines is already being looked at.

Apple's boss, Tim Cook, said they want to add smart features to their products this year. These features might come from companies other than Apple.

Investors are eager for Apple to add more smart tech, and a partnership with Google could be announced at Apple's big event in June.
