X Launches Profile Indicator For Accounts With The Highest Community Notes

Community Notes on X has been a debatable subject for quite some time now with many users suggesting changes as time passes by.

Now, we’re hearing more about how Elon Musk seems to have taken on the word of the masses for some kind of profile indicator that highlighted those accounts receiving the highest community note changes.

It was in October of 2023 when Musk vowed to listen and provide insights on those accounts sharing the greatest misinformation so users would trust it less. In the same way, suggestions were put on the table in terms of how the app could also work toward limiting the reach of those out there to misleading users.

The change certainly sounds too good to be true and we’re not sure whether or not this is one change that would last long. But for now, we’re going to take it with open arms. X says the best indicator of truth is through limiting reach that keeps getting flagged with notes.

With the new change, users will be able to see the page that has the most Community Notes on the latest updates. As one might imagine, most of Elon Musk’s most followed profiles and pages that the tech entrepreneur routinely engages with would be a part of this list and get severely affected by the rollout.

Common names as showcased by Community Notes Leaderboard website included Mario Nawful, Jackson Hinkle, Ian Miles, and even Wall Street Silver which popped up across the Top 20 list.

Elon Musk would be getting into position number 27, which is right ahead of American President Joe Biden, followed by Rep Marjorie Green.

So now the thing is that if X was going to make use of Notes as the true indicator for profile trust, Elon Musk would be a part of the most trusted sources out there today. So in that situation, we don’t see how a profile indicator that was in its true accurate self would come soon.

The rankings for Community Notes were compiled by media giant The Ellipsoid. They gave out some very interesting findings in terms of the whole Notes process. This includes who keeps getting checked upon through the system frequently. Meanwhile, the fact that users can go through Notes with ease when added to every account just makes it so much simpler to comprehend what is really being scrutinized and how the entire process functions.

For a while now, Elon Musk has promoted Community Notes as the best tool for moderating through crowd-sourcing. He feels that is the best way to really gauge what is true and what’s not in terms of information revealed to the public. He also sees no use in simply ordering the X management to make the moderation calls on what they feel is acceptable or not.

While most researchers do agree that Community Notes is not the right kind of replacement in terms of strict moderation measures, it still continues to go strong as we speak.

But that does not mean the EU is not taking note of Community Notes on X and how it functions. The news has caused the regulatory body in the region to carry out their own investigations into the app’s latest processes. This happens to revolve around whether or not Community Notes serves as a major deterrent for misinformation.

In case you did not know, both Twitter and X have been under scrutiny for misinformation for quite some time now. So we can understand where the news is coming from and why it has been prompted to investigate.
