Facebook and YouTube Are Still the Most Popular Platforms in the World, New Survey Reveals

The rise of Tiktok has led many to conclude that the days of Facebook’s dominance in the world of Social Media were coming to an end. TikTok has managed to secure tremendous popularity among Gen Z as well as pockets of Millennial users, thereby suggesting that a new contender will be able to rise to the top of the social media charts with all things having been considered and taken into account.

In spite of the fact that this is the case, it turns out that Facebook continues to hold a considerable amount of sway in terms of social media platforms. A new survey that was conducted by ReviewsOrg revealed that 73% of users still use Facebook. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that YouTube came in at a close second, receiving around 72% of the vote. This reveals that YouTube has managed to hold its position and also reduce the difference between itself and Facebook as far as social media popularity is concerned.

Instagram came in third with 54%, followed by X, formerly known as Twitter, with 43%. Only 35% of the people that responded to this survey stated that they use TikTok, but there is more to this data than meets the eye. Another metric by which the popularity of social media platforms was judged had to do with how addictive they turned out to be. This revealed more interesting trends than might have been the case otherwise.

Facebook once again came out on top, with 32% of survey respondents referring to it as being addictive. However, YouTube was not able to get the second spot in this arena, with that honor going to TikTok instead. 24% of individuals that responded to queries presented in this survey indicated that TikTok was the most addictive social media platform that they had ever used up until this point.

YouTube ended up reaching third place with 20% of the vote, followed by Instagram with 10%. Interestingly, X was only selected by 5% of survey respondents which seems to suggest that the platform has failed to offer enough features to keep users hooked under the controversial tenure of Elon Musk.

Finally, engagement metrics tend to have an outsized impact on how much influence a social media platform can have on the world. It is here that we finally see TikTok taking the top spot, with its users spending an average of 2 hours and 43 minutes each and every day scrolling through the platform and watching the videos that it has on offer.

Additionally, while Tumblr only got 5% of respondents saying they used it, it still had the second highest engagement rate among those users with 2 hours and 41 minutes a day. Facebook was only able to reach fourth place with just 2 hours of engagement every day, which seems to suggest that even though Facebook has a lot of users it really isn’t doing all that much to keep them engaged. Meanwhile, YouTube is close behind TikTok and Tumblr which makes it seem like the video streaming platform could still come out on top.
