Tell us about yourself

My name is Jasmine Watts and I am the Owner and Editor-in-Chief of Miss Millennia Magazine. Miss Millennia has been around for almost five years now and it’s all about helping millennial women transition from College life into adulthood.

What got you blogging?

I graduated from college and I was excited about getting started in the “real world.” I applied to several jobs, but I did not hear back from any of them. At the time, I thought that having a degree meant that people would be fighting over employing me since that was the picture that was painted for me throughout college. After speaking to my peers and doing some research, I learned that this was an issue that many people my age were facing. I thought, wouldn’t it be great to have a place that answered the hard questions for us? Like, what should my resume look like? Or, how do I know I am ready to have kids? And, where do I look for people to date outside of college? I asked my friends if a site with that kind of information would be of interest to them and they said it would. Thus, Miss Millennia Magazine was born.

What is the most popular topic on your site?

Our interview series! It’s called #LikeAGirl. We interview women from all walks of life and they tell their story of success and how they get things done!

What is your goal for your blog?

My goal is to continue to write content that matters. There is so much fluff out there, I want to make sure my content is making a difference.

What do you find most interesting when teaching millennials?

Millennials, at least at M3, like to know things in an in-depth way. We have had many articles that led to more questions and turned into more detailed articles on the same topic. Millennials are learners and they can really appreciate a detailed piece of content.

What advice would you give other bloggers to be successful?

Find other bloggers and chat with them. For one, it’s nice to be around people who have your same struggles in the blogging world. Also, everyone has different strengths and weaknesses and some people can be more developed in certain areas of their blogging business than you are and vice-versa. Just meeting other bloggers this year has made a tremendous difference for me in my business.

What is a funny story about your blog?

When we first started Miss Millennia, I did not know anything about websites or content management systems like WordPress. So, during our first few months we were manually writing the HTML code for each article and adding it to the site’s code one by one. It took so long to do, and getting an article up on the site meant dedicating at least an hour to it. When a friend of mine came to me and told me about WordPress, I was so happy I could kiss him! After that horrific experience, everything else in running a business seemed easy! It also taught me a valuable lesson. If you are struggling with something in your business, there is probably an easier way to do it. Such as using a tool or hiring someone who knows what the heck they are doing.

Who do you write for?

I write for women who need guidance in life. For me, much of my guidance came from my older sister and she gave advice in a way that was straightforward and honest. I hope that Miss Millennia can provide information that is just as frank.

About Jasmine Watts.

I am a fashion enthusiast with a deep passion for writing, internet marketing, and entrepreneurship. After graduating from college with a degree in Apparel Merchandising and no desire to move back to New York City, my world was rocked when I realized how different College Life was from “the real world.” I noticed that my friends were also struggling to transition. This led me to create Miss Millennia Magazine LLC, an online mag for women transitioning from college life into the real world.
