An entertainment blogger writes about the news from Hollywood (Blogger Interview)

We caught up with Ilana Youngheim, an Entertainment Blogger, to chat about her blog, Miz Hollywood. Her blog is all about the entertainment industry, but she doesn’t write gossip articles. Instead, Ilana reports on the facts and she has built a wide audience of women who appreciate her content. Read on to find about more about Ilana!

Tell us about yourself, your background and your blog

I went to school for broadcast journalism. My goal was to be in entertainment. While in college, my instructor told us to do reports on what we like and what we see ourselves doing. I knew I wanted to do entertainment reporting. For a few months I did research on celebrities and sent out over 600 letters. I got a phone call from Jay Leno himself asking me to come in and Interview him. I was floored. Then, my phone rang and it was Doris Roberts from Everybody Loves Raymond, also agreeing to an interview. After these interviews, I was even more assured that this is what I wanted to do. After college, I came up with the name Miz Hollywood and wanted to do entertainment news without the gossip. Initially, I Skyped with celebs and blogged about it, long before anyone else was doing it.

What got you blogging?

While working for news stations like Jewish Life Television, KTLA, KNBC, and NBC Universal, I knew that my real passion was in entertainment, but I also knew how difficult the business was to get into. I went to sleep and had a dream about the name Miz Hollywood and then started a Blogspot the next day. From there, it has expanded. I knew that I loved pop culture and telling people’s stories and now I am writing about what I love.

What tools do you use to blog?

I use WordPress to blog. I am constantly looking online for entertainment stories. I also get emails daily to post about products, news, and more. It’s very important to immerse yourself in Social Media. You can’t just blog anymore, you need to post on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. For my full-time job, I create content for social media. I learn how to use the platforms and what each one is useful for. I use Facebook to post the stories, Twitter to post about shows I am watching and talk to people, and Instagram to share photos and some entertainment stuff.

What is your goal for yourself as an Entertainment Blogger

My goal is to write about what I love watching, listening to, etc. I want my passion, as well as the passions of my team, to show. My favorite thing is interviews and red carpets. I know TV and movies so well, it’s a thrill to talk to celebrities and I always have a great time.

What target audience do you write for?

The audience is mostly female, 25 and older. I think my audience appreciates that we don’t write about gossip, just the exciting facts of what’s going on in Hollywood.

What do you find most interesting about your audience?

It’s interesting to see what they like and what engages them. We write what we like and what we hope others will like too. We want everyone who loves entertainment, the glitz and glamour to enjoy the site, but, it’s a mixture. No one likes just one thing.

What is an interesting story about your blog, a topic or a post in your blog that you can share with our readers?

Celebrity interviews are always interesting. One thing I’m going to start again is Celebrity Spotlight. This is where we share facts about celebs that people may not know. Like the fact that Madonna used to work for Dunkin’ Donuts and got a scholarship to college.

What suggestions do you have for other bloggers that want to be successful?

My suggestion would be to write about what you love. Have a passion for it. Mine is ever-changing and growing. We have changed the site a lot over the past 8 years. You have to be open to feedback if you get it and change it up. People Magazine doesn’t look like it did when it started. I don’t want our site to stay the same forever either. I see more changes coming. Also, don’t just post on your site, but create a community on social media. MizHollywood.com has been around eight years and we’re always up against other bloggers. You just have to keep working at it. My site isn’t where I want it to be. I want it to be better, but it takes time. Surround yourself with people that will help you and believe in your goal. I couldn’t do it without my writers and my friend who helps me with programming for the site. Build a strong community of followers and a strong community of people who help you with the blog!
