Today’s writing prompt is: BELIEVE

Yesterday we considered some of the fears that hold us back from sharing our story. And if you’re anything like me, you could easily let this endless rope of fears, doubts, and questions wrap around and around your mind and heart until you’re bound up, unable to move.

The “what ifs” can be enough to drive us into a state of paralysis—we can become so afraid of doing something wrong or of not doing enough things right that we simply do nothing at all. 

This is exactly where Satan wants us to be.

If we’re immobilized, we can’t make a positive impact for Christ and His Kingdom. If we’re so consumed by the fear of man and what the world may or may not think of us, the enemy has won.

Think about this for a moment: If we, as Christians, decide to keep quiet because of overwhelming fear, who will fill the void?

We all know there is no shortage of voices in the world. But are those voices who are speaking, sharing, and standing in the gap filling the world with truth? Or more lies?

In other words, if we don’t take a stand and speak the truth of the gospel, taking every opportunity to elevate the name of Christ, who will? 

God doesn’t need us in order to make His name known. He doesn’t need us in order to save and redeem His people. But He has commissioned us to go and make disciples, to proclaim His name to the nations, to be the light of the world, to tell of His glorious works, to use the gifts He has given. And if He gives us an assignment, then He is also faithful to equip us for the task (Hebrews 13:20-21).

Are we going to let fear keep us from fulfilling our God-ordained job? 

In his second letter to Timothy, the apostle Paul wrote, “… God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began, and which now has been manifested through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher, which is why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed, and I am convinced that he is able to guard until that day what has been entrusted to me” (2 Timothy 1:7-12).

I know whom I have believed. Do you? 

Trust Him with your story. Believe that He can use it for His purpose and His glory.

Our confidence shouldn’t be in ourselves or how eloquently we can articulate the gospel or our experience of God’s power in our lives — it should be in the One who abolished death and brought life and immortality through the gospel.

If God can do that, surely He can use our feeble attempts to share about Him.
