What’s the Best Stair Ladder?

Buying a Stair Ladder just makes sense, especially if you’ll be working on stairs regularly. Whether you’re changing a hard-to-reach lightbulb, cleaning, or decorating above stairs, you need the right ladder.

Painters, construction companies, and other types of workers might need a Stair Ladder for regular work. Buying a stair ladder will give you the right type of ladder to complete your projects in client’s houses safely.

Dangers You’re Facing

When working on stairs, you’ll face several dangers. Some of the dangers you’ll be dealing with include:

  • Uneven floor surface – This is a huge issue if you don’t have one of the stair ladders meant for working on these types of surfaces.
  • Limited Amount of Space – Stairs don’t offer much space to work within. Stairwells tend to be narrow and offer a limited amount of workspace.
  • Height – Typically, when working in a stairwell, you’ll be working at heights.

Are There Different Stair Ladder Options?

In short, yes. A stair ladder goes by many names; also called a combination ladder, an articulating ladder, a multi-position ladder, or a multi-purpose ladder by different ladder manufacturers. Different ladder models sometimes offer the ability to work on uneven surfaces.

One type of combination ladder provides an extendable inner section to make the surface even when working on stairs. The extensions allow for the legs to be two different lengths. This allows you to work from a solid surface without worrying about the dangers nearly as much.

An articulating ladder can also work well as a stair ladder. This type of ladder offers four sections connected by hinges. It folds up nicely and it’s very portable. This type of ladder also allows you to set it at different heights to work safely on stairs. It offers many different configuration options.

Another option is a combination step ladder that can be configured to work as a stair ladder. For example a Little Giant ladder that would bend and fold in different directions. There are a number of choices we sell at Ladder Depot.

All of the above options are convenient solutions if you don’t need to move side to side a bit to accomplish your task.  But if you do, there may be a better option of creating a temporary scaffold.  We have an article that shares how to make a step ladder scaffold called “ Scaffolding Options for Staircases“.

Stair ladders make working in a stairwell much easier and much safer. Choosing the right type of ladder to work on stairs doesn’t have to be difficult. When you buy a ladder that can be configured into a stair ladder, you get the right tool to help with decorating, painting, or any other task in a stairwell.
