Be On Your Digital Offensive: National Women And Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day 2017

This year, the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD – March 10) theme is “The Best Defense Is a Good Offense.” As we at AIDS.gov get ready to observe Nwghaad, we want to share some current digital resources.

Social Media

The HHS Office on Women’s Health (OWH) is the lead for this observance and provides a Social Media toolkit, with sample tweets and Facebook posts. The toolkit includes links to their Facebook page , Twitter handle and Pinterest board . #NWGHAAD and #BestDefense are the hashtags to follow and use. You can also join this year’s NWGHAAD Thunderclap (organized by OWH). You’ll be adding your voice to the crowd and reaching your own followers on March 10th with this message: The #BestDefense is a good offense! For #NWGHAAD, I’m taking action to protect my sexual health & help prevent HIV.

Here’s a select list of some Federal social media channels that address health issues of interest to women.

Check out OWH’s Pinterest board for images to repin. Feel free to pin images from AIDS.gov, including images from our NWGHAAD page, HIV Basics section and the HIV Testing Sites & Care Services Locator. The OWH observance day page offers themed cover photos and profile pictures.

Video

Is storytelling part of your digital strategy? Here are some videos with women talking about women’s health and HIV:

From HHS Office on Minority Health’s video series: Margot Kirkland an HIV prevention advocate/peer counselor for women living with HIV, talks about HIV and becoming a Health Equity Change Maker .

From CDC: The #DoingIt campaign videos include women speaking about the importance of knowing one’s HIV status. Vanea’s story is one powerful example.
