Tag Manager Verification Issue on Search Console Fixed

Google says it has solved a problem with Tag Manager verification on the Search Console. Now, site owners may need to re-verify their sites.

As every publisher knows, Google Search Console offers various ways to verify your website or property. And Google Tag Manager happens to be one of those methods.

Earlier in the week, Google announced that it had detected an issue with the Tag Manager Verification method in Search Console.

The search engine giant did not reveal any detail on the Tag Manager problem. But, it turns out that the issue may have caused sites to lose their verified status in the Search Console.

We still don’t know how it happened. However, Google says that it has resolved the issue, and recommends that previously verified sites on the Search Console re-verify. This

The tweet from Google Webmasters reads:

“We had an issue with the GTM verification method in Search Console, but it should be solved by now. You might need to re-verify.”

Now you’re wondering:

Did the Tag Manager Verification Bug Affect Your Site?

To find out if your site was affected, log into the Search Console and try to access the site’s data. If you still have access, it means your website is unaffected.

However, site owners that need to re-verify their site will get a pop-u upon logging into the Search Console. Google would send a prompt, asking them to take action.

Aside from Tag Manager, other methods of verifying your site include HTML file upload, HTML tag, and DNS record. There’s also Google Analytics tracking, Google Sites, Blogger, and Google Domains.

So, if you used Google Tag Manager for verification in Search Console, you may want to check that the properties are still verified. If that’s not the case, consider using any of the methods outlined above to redo the verification process.
