What is the ‘Credential Manager’?

Credential Manager is a special tool that is available in Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, it is available for Windows 8 and above.

Credential Manager gives you a special power to store and find all the entered passwords. So, you need to remember the passwords. After saving the password, next time when you have to login to your account, there is no need to not enter the credentials again. Credential Manager will auto-fill the text fields using the stored credentials.

Now the question arises, how to access the Credential Manager to find and manage your stored passwords? 

Don’t Worry! in this post, I will be telling you about how to find saved passwords in Internet Explorer using Credential Manager.

Accessing the Credential Manager:

Step 1: Launch Internet Explorer on your computer. Now go to the Settings then ‘Internet Option’. And, then go to the Content Tab.

Step 2: Click on ‘Settings’.

Step 3: In the AutoComplete Settings box, click on Manage Passwords.

Voila! You have successfully opened the ‘Credential Manager’. This is the place where all your saved passwords get stored. From here, you can manage all your saved passwords like removing the old stored password.

Windows can securely access these folders and use your stored credentials to automatically sign you into websites or other PCs.

Managing the Stored Passwords:

Till now, you have learned about the Credential Manager and how to view your stored credentials. But how to manage all the stored information there?

Basically, Credential Manger stores two types of credentials:

  • Web Credentials:
  1. Windows Credentials (Window Vault in Window 7)

All your saved passwords are stored under the Web Credentials While you can add, backup, restore Windows Credentials, there is no way to add or edit Web Credentials.

Under Web Credentials, you will be able to see all your stored passwords but those passwords will contain the asterisk(*) sign. To view the entire password, just click on “Show” on the right.

Then, you need to enter your login password to verify your identity so that no one except you can access those stored passwords. Boom! After entering the login password, your stored password is right in front of you.
