The First Forum on the European Space Strategy / Space Sight opening

On Saturday, 21 March 2015, at 4 PM, we invite you to visit KSEVT and the First Forum on the European Space Strategy of Space Culturalisation

Aleksander Zorn, Iztok Geister, Dragan Živadinov and Miha Turšič will discuss different approaches to the question of how national, European and planetary understandings of Human Activity in space relate to one another.

------------------------------------------------------------

We questionthe national strategic position that determines the ways in which individuals and the state of Slovenia cross from international to extraplanetary activities.

We question ourselves, in what way should we continue the work of prominent people who gave us the basic outline of human activity in Extraterrestrial Conditions.
  • Herman Potočnik was not just an engineer, but a man developing a vision of the human in extraterrestrial conditions at a time of technological hysteria.
  • The Trieste constructivists were not mere formalists: they were working on an outline of a new ethics to counter the disgrace of the 20th century.
  • Anton Mavretič was not just an electro-engineer, he developed analogue electronics that would operate in interstellar space.
  • Edvard Zajec is not just a pioneer of computer aesthetics, he managed to elaborate an emotional expression of computer algorithms.

We question ourselves, how to understand the relations between the national and the planetary, between the technological and the cultural, and above all, between the biological and the human.

------------------------------------------------------------

After the forum, we shall open the first exhibition of the Space Sight thematic and research focus – The Icons of the Non-Visible.

The Icons of the Non-visible exhibition aspires to elucidate the influence of space research and exploration on culture, and to open the way to an epistemological understanding of the images of the non-visible. In 2015–2016, KSEVT will tackle the question “How is the non-visible made visible?” in collaboration with experts in the natural sciences, the humanities and art, by highlighting certain cases in the context of exhibitions and expert conventions.
