Authorities in China arrested a man for stealing a significant amount of Electricity used to power a mining farm.

According to news Agency Xinhua, Police in the province Anhui seized more than 200 machines used for mining bitcoin and Ethereum, after the local power company reported the surge of electricity consumption.

The suspect allegedly stole 150.000 kWh of electricity in the period from April to may 2018. A Chinese citizen surnamed MA told the police that he wanted to make money out of mining.

He bought the equipment in April, but later found out that the daily electricity costs would have amounted to more than 6000 yuan (921 US dollars). MA said that at the time of his arrest, he worked “in a minus”.

This is not the first case of theft of electricity miners. In April, China had recorded two similar cases.

And during another incident, China had arrested six people in Tianjin. Police said the suspects used the 600 ASIC-s for bitcoin mining. Xinhua news Agency reported that this is possibly “the largest theft of electricity in recent years.”
