Fix Windows 10 Black Screen After Sleep



Some times when the computer has been inactive over a certain period of time, windows automatically go to Sleep mode Even after altering the sleep mode settings and removing the inactivity time, people have still marked these measures as ineffective or Windows 10 get freeze with Black Screen After Sleep .

It is due to the new feature Windows introduced for the versions 8, 8.1 and 10 called Hybrid Shutdown. The idea of it is to minimize shutdown and booting time by hibernating the kernel session, as opposed to completely shutting it down. However, there are still some bugs and errors in the feature, which lead to the shutdown process not being completed and result in the computer freezing.



This post we will look about this problem how to fix this problem and how prevent windows from this problem.

1. Turn of Hibernation

Turn off the hibernation mode windows never to to Hibernat / sleep mode and you didn't face any black screen.

To do this open command prompt as administrator and type command bellow.

powercfg /h off



After running the command – it will give you no output if it worked – simply restart your PC.


2. Turn off Fast Startup

As discuss the main reason behind this problem is windows 10 New Hybrid Shutdown Feature called Fast startup. To fix this black screen problem simply turn off the Fast Startup feature. most of time its work for all users.

To do this fallow bellow steps.

Click on your Start Menu and type “Power Options”, and open the first result. Now click on “Choose what the power button does” on the left pane. Click “Change settings that are currently unavailable” on the top of this page. Scroll down until you find “Turn on Fast Startup” and uncheck it.



Now after that save the changes and close it, and restart your PC

3. Make changes on network settings 

Some times Disable Wake on Magic Packet and Wake on Pattern Match on network adapter setting can fix this problem, to do the changes fallow bellow.

First open the Run by pressing Win + R and type ncpa.cpl click on ok this will open the network connections window. Now right click on your active Internet adapter and click Properties, click the Configure button on top right and go to the Advanced tab.



Here find “Wake on Magic Packet” and set it to Disabled, do the same with “Wake on Pattern Match”. Click OK and save the settings, then restart your PC

4. Reinstall your display adapter driver

If the display driver is outdated or not compatible with Windows 10, it may cause the black screen on Windows 10 after update.

for this first open device manager form the search box on the start menu, and then select Device Manager. once the Device manager opens look and Expand Display adapter. Right-click the display adapter and select Uninstall > OK. Restart your PC.



Download Latest Display Driver from Bellow and install.

Download Intel Graphic Driver

Download AMD Graphic Driver

5. Check hard disk for errors

One more cause for this issue could just be random data corruption on the hard disk preventing it from going to sleep properly – to check if this is the issue you could put your computer to sleep and check if the hard disk indicator light on your computer turns off or not. If it does not, this might be what is causing your issue.

6. Repair corrupted System Files

Some times corrupted sytem files may cause this problem. better once run the system file checker tool to check and repair corrupt system files. and Restart the windows.

To Run the system file check tool first open command prompt To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.






At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:

sfc /scannow






 The sfc /scannow command will scan all protected system files, and replace corrupted files with a cached copy that is located in a compressed folder at %WinDir%\System32\dllcache.

wait untill complete 100 % after complete restart the windows and chekc your problem will be fixed if the error occured due to corrupt system files.
