Email is Essential

Email has become such a priority in business and education that to go without is akin to choosing to be left out of the communication loop, altogether. Not only is communication via email a great way to keep up with your peers, it’s relatively low cost. In fact, if you’re a USF student or employee then you should have access to an account for free. Plus, it’s considered a fast and reliable method for exchanging information in most professional circles. In short, if you want to keep up with what’s going on in your environment and consequently continue to grow as a student or business professional, then setting up and using your email account is practically essential.

“Despite the growing popularity of messaging services, email still reigns supreme as the business communications medium of choice. It’s estimated that by 2018 the average employee will send and receive 140 messages per day,” (Harvard Business Review).

In the following section you’ll find a short list of steps to help you in your pursuit to setup a work email on iPhone, iPad, or Android devices, quickly and easily. Note that you will need a solid and cybersecure password before you begin the process. If you’re a USF student, faculty, or staff member and need help with anything else related to your account, you can also request technical support, which can be completed via online tickets, email, live chat, or a quick phone call.

There are a wealth of advantages to maintaining a clean email account for educational and business purposes. That’s why USF offers the the hsc antispam or Barracuda spam quarantine resource for all users. There you can view, request delivery of, and delete messages that have been identified as spam. You can also visit Health IS’ Safe Computing page for information on topics such as, email security and how to send or receive an encrypted email.

Mobile Security

In the words of the information technology strategist and blogger, Doug Theis, “A security system with several layers is difficult to hack. So, even if your data is targeted, getting through the many tiers of security will be a hassle. The simplest of programs, such as free online email accounts, have multi-layered security, too. Even if accessing your accounts takes a few extra steps, it is still worth the effort, certainly better than losing your data,” (DigitalGuardian).

These are areas of particular concern for business users who must avoid viruses, phishing, and other computer security threats. But spam and security issues shouldn’t hold you back from living your digital life. So, if you haven’t done so already take a look at the steps above to setup your account, today.

Happy Computing!
