How to Root OnePlus 3
Pre-requisites:
- ADB for Windows – Download
- TWRP Recovery – Download
- SuperSU – Download
Before You Proceed
- Enable USB Debugging: Go to About phone > Tap on Build number 7 times. This will enable
- Developer options: Now go back to Settings > Developer options > Enable USB debugging.
Enable OEM Unlocking: Go to Settings > Developer options. Then enable the ‘OEM Unlocking’ option. - Enable Advanced Reboot: Go to Settings > Developer options. Enable the ‘Advanced Reboot’ option.
Step 1: Unlock Bootloader
- Turn off your device.
- Boot into fastboot by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power Button. Hold until the phone displays “Fastboot”.
- Connect your device to PC.
- Open CMD (command prompt) (Shift + Right Click > Open Command Window here) and write fastboot devices
- If your device serial shows up then you are ready to proceed further. if it doesn’t make sure you have installed ADB drivers correctly.
- If the phone is recognized, write: fastboot oem unlock
- After process finished, write: fastboot reboot
- Done.
You device bootloader is now unlocked.
Step 2: Installing TWRP Recovery
- Perform all the steps first from “Before you Proceed” section above.
- Copy the recovery file you downloaded to your Desktop and rename if to “recovery.img“.
Now,
- Turn off your device.
- Boot into fastboot by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power Button. Hold until the phone displays “Fastboot”.
- Connect your device to PC.
- Open CMD and navigate to Desktop.
- Now Write: fastboot flash Recovery recovery.img
- After the above step finishes, unplug your phone and manually boot into recovery by holding Volume down + Power Button and choosing recovery using Volume and power keys.
- Reboot to system using recovery.
You have successfully installed custom Twrp Recovery on OnePlus 3. Now it’s time to root it.
Step 3: Rooting
- Copy the downloaded SuperSu.zip file and pasted it into the root directory of your OnePlus 3 storage.
Now,
- Turn off your device.
- Boot into recovery by holding Volume down + Power Button and choosing recovery using Volume and power keys.
- Select Install in recover.
- Select the SuperSu.zip file and flash it.
- After it finished flashing, reboot.
Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your OnePlus 3 and installed TWRP recovery in it. Enjoy flashing custom ROMs, kernels, MODs etc.
