How to Root OnePlus 3 and Install TWRP Recovery

OnePlus 3 is the company’s latest addition in their flagship lineup and the smartphone has beaten many flagship phones in several departments especially in RAM as it has a whopping 6GB of RAM. And if you are one of the lucky person to get the device then here is How to Root Oneplus 3 and Install Twrp Recovery.

How to Root OnePlus 3

Pre-requisites:

  • ADB for Windows – Download
  • TWRP Recovery –  Download
  • SuperSU – Download

Before You Proceed

  • Enable USB Debugging: Go to About phone > Tap on Build number 7 times. This will enable
  • Developer options: Now go back to Settings > Developer options > Enable USB debugging.
    Enable OEM Unlocking: Go to Settings > Developer options. Then enable the ‘OEM Unlocking’ option.
  • Enable Advanced Reboot: Go to Settings > Developer options. Enable the ‘Advanced Reboot’ option.

Step 1: Unlock Bootloader

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Boot into fastboot by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power Button. Hold until the phone displays “Fastboot”.
  3. Connect your device to PC.
  4. Open CMD (command prompt) (Shift + Right Click  > Open Command Window here) and write  fastboot devices
  5. If your device serial shows up then you are ready to proceed further. if it doesn’t make sure you have installed ADB drivers correctly.
  6. If the phone is recognized, write: fastboot oem unlock
  7. After process finished, write: fastboot reboot
  8. Done.

You device bootloader is now unlocked.

Step 2: Installing TWRP Recovery

  • Perform all the steps first from “Before you Proceed” section above.
  • Copy the recovery file you downloaded to your Desktop and rename if to “recovery.img“.

Now,

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Boot into fastboot by pressing and holding Volume Down + Power Button. Hold until the phone displays “Fastboot”.
  3. Connect your device to PC.
  4. Open CMD and navigate to Desktop.
  5. Now Write:  fastboot flash Recovery recovery.img
  6. After the above step finishes, unplug your phone and manually boot into recovery by holding Volume down + Power Button and choosing recovery using Volume and power keys.
  7. Reboot to system using recovery.

You have successfully installed custom Twrp Recovery on OnePlus 3. Now it’s time to root it.

Step 3: Rooting

  • Copy the downloaded SuperSu.zip file and pasted it into the root directory of your OnePlus 3 storage.

Now,

  1. Turn off your device.
  2. Boot into recovery by holding Volume down + Power Button and choosing recovery using Volume and power keys.
  3. Select Install in recover.
  4. Select the SuperSu.zip file and flash it.
  5. After it finished flashing, reboot.

Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your OnePlus 3 and installed TWRP  recovery in it. Enjoy flashing custom ROMs, kernels, MODs etc.
