Nubia N1 Lite – Is This The Best Smartphone in Its segment?

ZTE’s Sub-Brand Nubia launched the Nubia N1 in India in February and now it has launched a lighter version of the Nubia N1 rightfully named the Nubia N1 Lite. The USP of the N1 Lite is the front facing flash which is the first in its price segment. The Nubia N1 lite will face tough competition with phones like the recently launched Xiaomi Redmi 4 and Micromax Evok Power.

Coming to the specifications, the Nubia N1 Lite features a 5.5-inch HD (720p) Display up top, under the hood is a Mediatek 6737 Quad-Core SoC clocked at 1.25 GHz coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. There is a Micro SD expansion slot present on the device to increase the memory available on the phone.

For photography, the Nubia N1 Lite provides an 8-MegaPixel Rear shooter with f/2.2 aperture and PDAF along with Led Flash. The USP of the device though is the front facing 5-MegaPixel shooter also with LED flash. A 3000mAh battery power the device which should easily last a full day of use. On the software front, it runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well.

Nubia N1 Lite isn’t the only phone in this segment though and it faces tough competition from both the Redmi 4 and the Micromax Evok Power, both of which are Amazon and Flipkart exclusives respectively. Let’s compare and see if Nubia N1 Lite has what it takes to stand out.

As far as the specifications are concerned, the Xiaomi Redmi 4 comes with a 5 inch HD (720p) with 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla glass display up top. Under the hood, the show is run by the Snapdragon 435 which is an Octa-core SoC which is coupled with 2, 3 or 4GB of RAM along with 16, 32 or 64GB of internal memory. The base variant comes with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage, and for the sake of this comparison we will be using that variant as a benchmark, it is priced at Rs. 6,999.

There is a fingerprint sensor present on the device and it runs Android 6.0 marshmallow wrapped under Xiaomi’s custom user interface the MIUI 8. On the camera front, the Redmi 4 comes with a 13-MegaPixel rear camera along with LED flash and a 5-MegaPixel front camera without a LED flash. Powering the device is a 4100mAh battery which should last for about 2 days on a single charge.

On the other hand, the Micromax Evok Power houses a 5 inch HD (720p) display with 2.5D curved glass, but it gives a miss to any kind of screen protection. Under the hood, a Mediatek MT6737 powers the device; the same chipset is used in the Nubia N1 Lite as well. There is 2 GB of RAM along with 16 GB of internal storage present on the phone which with the help of a micro SD card can be expanded as well.

The Evok Power is home to an 8 Mega Pixel rear shooter along with a 5-MegaPixel front shooter, the rear houses a LED flash while the front doesn’t unlike the Nubia N1 lite which does. It runs Android 6.0 marshmallow and also has a fingerprint sensor. The Evok Power as the name suggests is powered by a 4000mAh battery.

All three phones are priced identical at Rs. 6,999 and are on sale on either Flipkart or Amazon. The Micromax Evok Power and Nubia N1 Lite are on open sale while the Redmi 4 comes in flash sales. All three phones have a USP and it depends on the user what kind of a device do they want.

The Redmi 4 is an overall budget performer with a good rear camera with no spectacular features in particular while the Micromax Evok Power has a powerful battery but an overall weaker user experience compared to Redmi 4. The Nubia N1, on the other hand, is aimed towards people who click a lot of selfies and require a front facing flash.
