Having met Associate Professor Cheryl Desha at the Griffith University Open Day, we were introduced to her latest project that linked high-tech, real time, collaborative work space. The concept was to be able to use these nodes in times of emergency to collaborate for rapid response. We’ll let them explain a little better than we can: Adapter is the first of a series of localised but globally connected nodes. Our charter includes community-driven, cross-sectoral research to provide tangible, creative solutions. We foster improved decision-making and integrated policies, including programs that support engagement and collaboration between government, industry and academic researchers globally. ‘Adapters’—our colleagues around the world—will engage in pragmatic, real-time and rigorous enquiry into challenges and opportunities facing humanity. They will explore the full spectrum of these time-scale challenges, from dealing with immediate disaster response and recovery, through to planning and governance for future resilience in the face of unprecedented climate change, population dynamics and resource pressures.
