The Friday Roundup – Scripting and Keyboard Shortcuts

How Will Scripting Change Your Videos

One of the most difficult lessons to learn for all new video creators is the importance of pre-planning before you even think about shooting a video.

It is totally unsexy and in itself seems like a chore when all you want to do is get to the good part!

Actually the same goes for editing.

There is nothing attractive about spending hours re-naming and organizing your files into a sensible file structure… you just want to edit!

A large part of pre-production is settling on a script and the problem here is that most newbies don’t really think they need one.

They are all for just “winging it” and shooting on the fly.

This invariably leads to content that lacks structure, continuity and often leaves out important points that were forgotten in the heat of the moment.

Remember, a script can be a “word for word” statement of everything that is going to be said or it can be a complete outline of all the topics that will be covered.

Either way it is a vital aspect of video content creation.

PowerDirector – Useful Keyboard Shortcuts for Quicker Editing

For most people starting out at video editing there is an initial rush of excitement at the prospect of creating their own videos.

As they plough through the process learning how to do things the world seems like a happy place.

Unfortunately after a few projects and as the complexity of those projects begins to advance the rot sets in!

Finally they come to the horrifying conclusion that editing is actually dull, repetitive and very time consuming.

It’s still great when the project is finished and you get to see what you created… it’s the getting there that becomes no so great.

The key to that problem is shortcuts and no, I don’t mean getting someone else to do it!

Video editing software is designed on a “point and click,” “drag and drop” basis to make learning the ropes easier for newcomers.

That certainly allows everyone to get started but that method is inherently inefficient and is actually the cause of why most editing is so slow and tedious.

Pro editors actually use special decks to edit and even if they are using a keyboard and mouse their most common weapon is the keyboard and not the mouse.

Here are some Keyboard Shortcuts you can use to make editing way faster.

Bear in mind that just because this is shown in PowerDirector doesn’t mean you can’t do in your editing program of choice.

They all have keyboard shortcuts to make your life easier.

Tips on using the AI Background Removal Tool

The A.I. Background Removal Tool in PowerDirector is probably one of the oldest of its type at the consumer video editing software level and because of that, the most developed.

Given the right candidate footage it generally does and excellent job at doing what it is supposed to do.

However like all of these A.I. tools at the moment it is not perfect in all scenarios.

The good news is that even if it does glitch a little on difficult footage it is easy to go in and correct.

Let’s face it, a few corrections after the fact is nothing compared to trying to pull any of this off manually!

Step-by-Step Guide: Text Behind Head Effect in Corel VideoStudio

To be honest the old text behind anything trick is pretty much a standard these days and very easy to accomplish.

This one is done using VideoStudio but as long as you have more than three tracks, masking and some keyframing ability you are good to go.

The only time this one gets tricky is if you are having the text move or appear behind something that is moving.

In that case some keyframing will be necessary but in an ideal world your editor has Motion Tracking and can automatically track the object.

How to Motion Track Objects in Filmora

This is a very rundown on the basics of motion tracking within Filmora.

Motion tracking has been available in Filmora for a few versions now and while it’s great for their marketing department to jump up and down about it all… in itself it pretty much adds up to nothing!

The real key to motion tracking as a feature is what that ability is tied to within the program.

Tracking motion is pointless unless you are using the created motion paths to actually DO something!

So in the video below you can see motion tracking in action and more importantly what you can do after it is compltete.

Filmora 13 – How to use AI Music Generator

With the release of Filmora 13 there was the addition of the A.I. Music Generator which is pretty much what it says on the box! It generates A.I. music!

You can see in the video below that Jacky uses it to create some music for a project however there are some other things to consider here.

First up is the cost which in the video you will see as the program using “credits.”

When you purchase the program they give you a couple of thousand credits anyway and these can be used in any of the A.I. modules.

The re-purchasing cost for credits is at the smallest amount U.S.$10 for one thousand credits but by paying for more it gets cheaper.

So when Jackey creates two one minute music tracks it costs him 30 credits.

I think this is a pretty good deal given that access to most fully equipped A.I. models like Chat GPT runs at around U.S.$20 per month.

I much prefer a “pay as you go” model given that most users will not be hammering the systems enough to warrant a monthly outlay.

The second point he raises is that of Copyright.

I think the terms are quite straightforward and I see no problems for anyone using this music in the projects and uploading to YouTube.

How Video Editors Are Tricking You (and you don’t even know)

This is an excellent video from the guys at Cinecom.net on their very successful YouTube channel.

It covers about ten very important tips for presenting your videos to an audience and how to create and edit them accordingly.

Of particular interest is that they explain each tip very carefully as to how it affects the viewer and why it does what it does.

Motion Graphics for Beginners in Fusion – DaVinci Resolve Fusion Basics

As I have said many times before the easiest way to learn the Fusion Page in DaVinci Resolve is to engage in simple projects.

That way as you are pottering along you will invariably become comfortable with the interface and familiar with the many tools on offer.

Here’s a great intro to motion graphics using the Fusion Page from Casey Faris.
