The Friday Roundup – YouTube #Shorts and Text Reveals

Why Your #Shorts Views Flatline when You Upload

Shorts on Youtube have been around for over two years now and the bottom line is that people are still trying to work out how to make them work properly.

I think part of the problem is that YouTube themselves didn’t really know what to do with them so guidance to creators was always a bit unclear.

There are many “experts” claiming to know what they are, how they work and how you should approach them.

The problem here is that most of those “experts” have dismally low stats for their own shorts!

Here are some suggestions from someone who has had success from shorts and thankfully he uses words like “probably,” “most likely,” and “it seems.”

There are generally the words used by an expert rather than an “authority!”

Text Reveal Effect in VideoStudio: Step-by-Step Tutorial – YouTube

VideoStudio 2023 has introduced some more sophistication to both it’s masking and and Titling capabilities.

In the video below you can see it all in action and a reasonable look at some of the control you have.

Best Camera For YouTube Videos In 2023 – A Beginners Guide

So clearly there is no section on this website covering the latest and greatest when it comes to what camera you should use or buy.

The market is so big, so varied and so subject to change that I just don’t have the time or resources to keep up.

For that reason I won’t touch it with a barge pole!

However what I am a big fan of is providing to you the knowledge and ability to make your own decision on it without being blinded by the marketing guff you see everywhere.

To that end if you really want to work out how to choose a video camera check out my series here: https://diyvideoeditor.com/choosing-the-right-video-camera/

You can also check out some basic tips and suggestions in the video below.

Surreal April Full Pink Moon Tutorial 2023 – Filmora

A few weeks back now Filmora released version 12 of their video editing software with a few new A.I. driven tools.

One of those was the Smart Cutout tool which you can use to isolate automatically elements within a video.

This is particularly useful for when you are working with masks.

The problem with masking videos has always been that isolating the object to be masked is time consuming initially but on top of that if the subject moves in the video, (which it will) you have to keep redrawing the mask.

So the beauty of the Smart Cutout tool is that it not only recognises the object but can then automatically track that object in the frame as the video advances.

I finally came across a pretty good video demonstrating this procedure as you can see in the video below.

Please, Don’t Start These YouTube Channels in 2023

Starting a new YouTube Channel is hard enough without blindly stumbling into a channel idea that is doomed from the start.

There are niches that are so absurdly over serviced you don’t have a hope and there are types of videos that may start off OK but will ultimately die.

Check out the video for some guidance on all of this.

Filmora 12.2 New Features

Filmora came out with a new version a few weeks back then quite quickly updated from version 12 to version 12.2.

Generally this second type of update only addresses glitches and bugs found from when the original update was released into the wild.

However in this case they added a few new features so I am not complaining!

Here are some of the new features explained and demonstrated.

PowerDirector – Customizing Unlikely Intro and Outro Elements

This is a very cool video tutorial exposing a rich source of elements that you can use in your projects that you may have overlooked.

This one is demonstrated in Powerdirector but that is totally irrelevant.

Every video editing software program these days comes with a mountain of preset intros and outros and templates and who knows what!

Well all of those things have to be made up of images and fonts and animations and on and on.

All of them have to be separate so they can be tailored to a project so you can use them in anything.

I don’t know how many times I have been looking an image or a text animation and instead of finding one I want in the relevant library I have found it in an already existing template.

I would really urge you when you have some spare time to open up your video editing program and just explore your way through everything and I am sure you will be surprised at the amount of assets you have just sitting there unused.

PowerDirector Q&A Live April 5, 2023

Another episode of the (approximately!) bi-weekly livestream from PowerDirector University so if you are already a PowerDirector user this is always worth tuning into. It is mainly people tuning in to get their questions answered and is always full of great ideas and helpful tips.
