Melainkan sekumpulan kode-kode cheat yang tersimpan dalam piringan CD yang nantinya bisa diimplementasikan untuk game-game tertentu yang memang cheat-nya mendukung. Memang berbeda dengan kondisi seperti saat ini dimana untuk mengaktifkan cheat kita hanya tinggal memasukan kode-kode rahasia saat membuka game-nya langsung melalui konsol maupun platform game modern seperti saat ini. Nah, jaman dahulu konsol sangat terbatas bahkan untuk menyimpan save file saja teknologinya belum sampai khususnya pada era Nintendo Entertainment System, oleh karena itu GameShark menjadi cara jitu gamers pada masa tersebut untuk mengaktifkan cheat.
