What is Android?
Hey guys, new to Android? Can't get what it is, what does it mean? Here I will try to include all the basic things which come under Android.
Android is a popular mobile operating system, based on Linux kernel, which is being used by users all over the world. Android is open source that means anyone can download it's source code and make any kind of changes in it. Yeah, you can also do that. Unlike iOS, operating system used in the devices by Apple, Android allows you to perform modifications in it. You do not need to stay locked into a different ecosystem of Apple. You can change how the device looks, how it functions, and a lot more.
Got a little idea what Android is? Okay, so now let's get into some more details regarding Android. Android was developed in 2008 September, that is seven years ago from now. Android is developed by Google and is maintained by Google. Android had been written in Core(C), C++ and Java(UI). The latest released version of Android is Android 6.0 (Marshmallow), it was released in October 2015. Google has made a complete makeover in the design of Android in Android Lollipop i.e. Android 5.0, they brought material design which just looks absolutely awesome.Android naming system is really unique. The names of version of Android are in alphabetical order and are always the name of a sweet or dessert. Android is currently available in 70 languages.
Above I had said that Android is a OS which was developed for mobiles, yeah it was bit now it is not just used in smartphones. It is used in Television, it is used in Cars, it is used in tablets, it is used in notebooks and mostly everything.
There are many OEMs which have been using Android in their phones. You have a S6, yeah it is using Android, have a Nexus, yeah it is using Android, have a Xperia Z4, yeah it is using Android. There is not just one OEM which uses Android in their phones. Ask the major smartphone makers have been using Android in their top smartphones, let it be, Samsung or Sony or Motorola or Xiaomi. It is not iOS which is used by just one company, Apple. Recently, Google had released a motto for Android which said," Be Toghether, Not The Same", which means, all the OEM's should be together, work cooperatively but not copy each other, and develop something new.
