I knew Chance the Rapper had a new Album coming out because a crowd of excited teenagers in matching shirts was hanging posters of him at my subway stop yesterday, hyping Coloring Book, which dropped late last night and features everyone from Kanye West to Justin Bieber. It was a very analog way to learn about a very digital album release (hey, there’s been a lot of news this week to keep up with, y’all—I missed the Twitter discussion I’m sure happened!).

Coloring Book is available to stream on Apple Music right now. If you don’t have Apple Music, and don’t want it, don’t worry, because Chance also uploaded the entire album, for free, to the mixtape site Dat Piff. You can stream or download it from there. And you should, because not only is Chance generous, he’s put together one hell of a follow up to 2013’s Acid Rap.

He’s following in the footsteps of musicians like Erykah Badu, who put her (amazing) mixtape But You Caint Use My Phone online to stream for free last November, and Rhianna, who offered some free downloads of her album ANTI in January, though it was a Tidal exclusive.

My favorite track so far is “Smoke Break,” which, like all Great Songs, seems written specifically for me: it’s about how life changes for a couple when they have a new baby at home. My son was born a month after Chance’s daughter, and like Chance, my partner and I sometimes miss our free time, our Netflix time, our time for ourselves. And yet, again like all great songs and albums, it’s a celebration. After I downloaded Coloring Book, uploaded it to my Google Music account, paired my phone with my Amazon Echo (whew!), that’s the song I blasted through the kitchen. We danced—my husband, our tiny son who’s just learning rhythm, and me—as Chance and the summer breeze lifted up the day.
