If it’s good performance or high quality you’re after, then you will be asked to pay a lot of money – that has always been true, even with notebooks. If you’re looking for a powerful notebook, then the Dell XPS9360-1718SLV is worth looking into.

Design

Not only is the Dell XPS9360-1718SLV stylish and fun to look at, it has also been created from some pretty tough stuff – aluminum construction. This means this material has been precision-cut from a single block of aluminum, making for a durable, sturdy chassis.

XPS products utilize carbon fiber that is similar to what is used in racing bikes and high-performance cars. Don’t worry, though, because this laptop is still light in weight, but it has some pretty good strength. As for the palm rest, it is strong and thin like aluminum, but cooler to the touch.

Dell XPS9360-1718SLV Specs

This Dell XPS9360-1718SLV has a display screen that is 13.3’ inches with a resolution of 3200 x 1800, which is way more than Full HD. If you’re planning on watching high-resolution movies, this laptop will come in handy as the picture will look very sharp.

Due to the Quad HD, the text may have a small appearance to it, but if you don’t like this, you can easily change the resolution. This isn’t one of those 2-in-1 laptops, so you can’t rotate the screen more than 130 degrees, which really isn’t all that big of a deal.

In this Dell laptop, you’ll find the Intel Core i5-7200u. This is a dual-core unit, but the clock speeds are a bit higher, with 2.5GHz base speed and with turbo, you have 3.1GHz. The CPU Mark score came in at 4900, which is decent and with that, it is pretty safe to assume you will be getting top-notch performance with this laptop.

This laptop has soldered 8GB DDR3L 1866MHz memory – that’s a decent amount of memory, regardless of who you are. The RAM is installed so that you cannot upgrade it, so you won’t be able to get any faster than this.

The 128GB on this dell is small. If you’re looking for a bigger drive, the good news is that you can upgrade the drive yourself. It’s an M.2 SSD and the interface can accept both SATA 3 and PCIe standards.

Let’s get into bit more detail

If you’re looking for a gaming laptop, unfortunately, this wouldn’t be a good one. The Dell XPS9360-1718SLV comes with integrated graphics. It is great for watching movies and other daily tasks. But for playing games, it might not be the best option out there.

The graphics unit, however, is one of the better-integrated ones. Be informed that you are not going to get excellent frame rates with the Intel HD 620. If you were to play GTA 5, you’ll get around 30FPS on low settings and resolution. Games such as Sims 4 and World of Warcraft will work a lot better, though. Again, for a mid-range gamer, this laptop will do just fine.

As far as the ports go, you have two regular USB 3.0 ports, and one USB Type-C  multi-use connector. This laptop does not have an HDMI-output. However, with the right cable, you can use the USB Type-C as an HDMI-output.

Being that this is a small laptop, it doesn’t have a DVD burner with it. However, it does have a media card reader for SD, SDHC, and SDXC.

For an Internet connection, you can use the WiFi adapter that is capable of supporting 802.11ac standard. The laptop also supports Bluetooth 4.1 so you can connect your devices with ease.

As far as battery life goes, it has a 4-cell 60Whr integrated battery. This battery should give you around 6 hours of use. On the front of the laptop, you’ll find a webcam. The webcam offers 720p maximum resolution at 30FPS.

Dell XPS9360-1718SLV Review: Verdict

If you’re just a casual user, then the Dell XPS9360-1718SLV might not be a good option because it is a bit on the pricey side. However, if you are a professional who has a thirst for pure performance, then this type of notebook would be a great choice. The Core i5 processor makes this laptop a beast and the solid-state drive will help in general performance. Thanks to the Quad HD resolution, the screen is crystal sharp. If you have the money to spend, then this high-performance dell laptop is definitely worth checking out.
