WINDOWS: HOW TO ADD A SHARED PRINTER TO YOUR PC (DESKTOP / LAPTOP/TABLET)

This tutorial is about how to add a network Printer to your windows pc. This network printer will be shared out from another windows pc where its connected via usb, serial, parallel, stand alone print server or in such a way that the stated pc is acting as a print server or has the print server role since it is running a windows server os.

WINDOWS XP: SHARED PRINTER INSTALL

1. Click Start > Printers and Faxes.
2. Click Add a Printer on the left pane.
3. Click Next.
4. Select Local printer attached to this computer and click Next.
5. Select Create a new port, select Local Port for the Port Type, and click Next.
6. For Port Name, enter the network path to the printer by entering two slashes, the computer name or local IP address of the PC sharing the printer, and then the share name of the printer. For example “\\Mypc\MYprinter” or “\\192.168.2.15\MYprinter”
7. Select the printer and click Next. If the exact model isn’t listed, try the closest model number or a generic printer.
8. Follow the bouncing ball.

WINDOWS VISTA/7: SHARED PRINTER INSTALL

1. Click Start > Devices and Printers.
2. Click Add a Printer on the top.
3. Select Add a local printer.
4. Select Create a new port, select Local Port for the Port Type, and click Next.
5. For Port Name, enter the network path to the printer by entering two slashes, the computer name or local IP address of the PC sharing the printer, and then the share name of the printer. For example “\\Mypc\MYprinter” or “\\192.168.2.15\MYprinter”
6. Select the printer and click Next. If the exact model isn’t listed, try the closest model number or a generic printer.
7. Follow the bouncing ball.

WINDOWS 8/10: SHARED PRINTER INSTALL

1. Click the bottom-left Start button to open the Start Menu, type control panel in the search box and select Control Panel in the results.
2. Click Devices and Printers.
3. Click Add a Printer on the top.
4. Select Add a local printer.
5. Select Create a new port, select Local Port for the Port Type, and click Next.
6. For Port Name, enter the network path to the printer by entering two slashes, the computer name or local IP address of the PC sharing the printer, and then the share name of the printer. For example “\\Mypc\MYprinter” or “\\192.168.2.15\MYprinter”
7. Select the printer and click Next. If the exact model isn’t listed, try the closest model number or a generic printer.
