Do You Know What BEME Is?

A New App For Story Tellers By A Genius Story Teller- Casey Owen Neistat

Casey is a New York-based filmmaker and a noted social media phenomenon. He became a filmmaker – by way of being a teen father on welfare living in a trailer and working as a dish washer. Casey was born and raised in New London, Connecticut. He started getting recognized internationally in 2003 for a three-minute film titled iPod’s Dirty Secret, criticizing Apple’s lack of a battery replacement program for the iPod. The film received national media attention and brought broad attention on Apple’s policy towards iPod battery replacements.

Casey has been creating popular YouTube videos, and his count stands at 499 videos (as on 12th April 2016) with close to 2.7 million subscribers. Some of his popular videos are Subway Emergency Breaks, Bike Lanes, Make It Count, and Snowboarding with NYPD among others. He has also been a producer for movies- The Pleasure Of Being Robbed and Daddy Longlegs and has directed Science Experiments with his brother. Casey and his brother, Van, are also the creators of the HBO series, The Neistat Brothers. Casey is also a public speaker and has lectured on topics related to filmmaking and his life experiences.

Casey is also the owner and co-founder of social media company, Beme

Beme is a new video-sharing app built by Casey and Matt Hachett, former VP of engineering at Tumblr. Launched on the 17th of July last year, Beme attracted a lot of attention and very soon became the talk of the town. The name is pronounced as ‘beam’ and uses a Snapchat-like interface. So you can record short clips and share them with your Beme friends. Sounds too much like Snapchat?

Well, here is the catch- instead of long-pressing a record button, you capture video by covering your iphone’s proximity sensor, which is the little dot near the front camera. Which means that you can start recording videos by keeping the phone to your chest, forehead, or to any other solid object and as soon as the sensor gets covered, screen goes completely black, and users have no way of previewing their content. The phone will beep or vibrate to let you know that recording has started and as soon as you uncover the sensor, the video will be shared automatically and when the video’s over, it’s gone forever. Beme users will get a real time experience as the app doesn’t give you the option to edit or re-shoot the videos.

Besides the unique capture method, there is another major feature- ‘reaction,’ which lets you use the front camera to send a selfie to someone as you’re watching their video. Beme is available only on iOS platform at the moment and experts say that the android version will be out soon.

Right now you need a Beme unlock code to access the Beme Social Network. Anyone can download the Beme app to the phone and reserve a place in the Beme social network, but you cannot start using it until you get a one-time use code. The idea behind this access code is to help you join with someone you know, according to Casey. However this also acts like a promotion for Beme and marks it as an exclusive place that you need to ask someone to get into. This works something like a refined version of the discount code Uber and Ola users share among each other.
Well Beme is performing very well till date.

So far so good, let’s say.

But only time will the level of success!
