How To Reset A Forgotten Windows 10 / 8 / 7 Password

What should you do if you forget the Windows Password on your computer? There are plenty of methods on the internet claiming to help you reset forgotten Windows passwords but most of them are ineffective.  Old versions of Windows have a hidden administrator account that allows you to log in from Safe Mode, but that no longer works. Other tutorials suggest that you can unlock Windows account with a password reset disk, but you need to create such a disk before you forgot the password, so it’s not helpful when you’re already locked out.

As it’s impossible to get around security restrictions while Windows is running, you need to boot your PC from a secondary OS (such as a Live CD) to bypass the password. In this tutorial we’ll walk you through how to reset forgotten Windows 10 / 8 / 7  password using the most effective Windows password bypass utility – PCUnlocker Live CD.

Create A PCUnlocker Live CD

When your own computer is locked up, you need to create a PCUnlocker Live CD (or USB drive) on your friend’s PC. PCUnlocker is distributed as zip archive. After you’ve downloaded it, unpack it and you’ll get the ISO image: pcunlocker.iso.

Next, download and install the freeware ISO2Disc, which lets you create bootable CD/USB from ISO file. Start the ISO2Disc program, click the Browse button to find the PCUnlocker ISO image. Next choose the “Burn to CD/DVD” option and click Start Burn.

Boot Your Computer From The CD

Insert the PCUnlocker Live CD you’ve created into the USB port of your computer. Turn on the machine and quickly press the function key to access the BIOS Boot Menu. The following list shows you the key to press depending on the manufacturer of your PC:

  • Acer – Esc, F9 or F12
  • Asus – Esc or F8
  • Compaq – Esc or F9
  • Dell – F12
  • HP – Escape or F9
  • Intel – F10
  • Lenovo – F8, F10, F11, F12 or Novo button
  • Samsung – Esc or F12
  • Sony – F10 or F11
  • Toshiba – F12

From the BIOS Boot Menu, you can choose the PCUnlocker Live CD in the devices list and press Enter. The computer will boot from CD immediately.

Reset Your Forgotten Windows Password

It will remove your Windows password in no time. Reboot the machine and let it boot as normal. When you locked account appears on the logon screen, click on it and you can login without the need for a password!
