Windows 10 is slated for release later this year, probably in the third quarter of 2015. A lot of people are already using the Technical Preview of Windows 10 which looks very promising.

Microsoft’s announcement that Windows 10 will be a free upgrade during its first year if you are running Windows 8.1, Windows Phone 8.1, or Windows 7 came out as great news for Windows users. Microsoft released Build 9926 of the Windows 10 Technical Preview last week. This can be easily downloaded and installed via Windows update on Windows 7 and Windows 8.

To update to the Windows 10 technical preview from Windows 7 and Windows 8, you need to download a small file from Microsoft’s Windows 10 Technical Preview page. Once you visit the page, click on the ‘Start upgrade now’ button.

The file will be downloaded to your computer. After you run the file, it will require you to restart your PC. On the first boot, Windows update will show the option to ‘Upgrade to Windows 10’.

This is a very simple and hassle-free procedure. You will no longer require bootable USB drives or DVDs to upgrade to Windows 10 Technical Preview.

You might be aware that Windows 10 will be shipped with every new Windows PC and Laptop once it is released later this year. Also, Microsoft had earlier confirmed that people who are using the Technical Preview of Windows 10 will have the option to upgrade to the full consumer release non-disruptively.
