Congratulations... You have successfully installed Windows 8.!! The message pops in and after a while you realise that your old games and apps won't work with your OS... and thats not good..well, here are some methods through which you can bring those old apps to life.
#1 Compatibility and Administrative rights:
A simple method to bring back your old apps is to try running the program in windows 8 itself with little changes. This includes running the program in administrative mode. You should also test the program changing the compatibility settings. That is, the program may work smoothly on previous versions of windows. To turn on administrative and compatibility mode:
> Right click the application and click on properties.
> Under the compatibility tab, check ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select the version of windows suitable for your program also checks the ‘Run this program as an administrator’ option.
>Now click OK and open the application.
If you are not sure about the version of windows for your app, ‘Run the compatibility troubleshooter ‘under the compatibility tab. If this doesn't work, try the next method.
#2 Use DOSBox:
DOSBox is a free emulator application that allows you to run your apps on DOS environment. There are some games that work with DOS. Applications such as program compilers also requires DOS. Download and install DOS and now try to run the application.
#3 Virtual Box:
You can try installing a third party software such as virtual box. This software helps you find and run the application with appropriate compatibility and environmental settings. you can install another OS inside windows 8 and you can run the programs using the this OS.
#4 Update:
Well, if the problem still exists, you can look for the software updates or game patches which allow you to run the old apps on windows 8.
