Recently, Skype for Web became available for everyone, and now you can use the “online” Skype without download and installation the software on the computer. Skype for Web runs entirely in your web browser and you have the opportunity to make and receive calls, (including video calls), add contacts, see the message history (including those that were written in the standard Skype). This guide will show you how to use Skype for Web for the first time.

How To Use Skype For Web For The First Time

To enter the online Skype, simply open https://web.skype.com/ page in your browser (Google Chrome is recommended). On this page, enter your Skype username and password and click on “Sign in”.

If you don’t have the account, you can create it on the same page.

After you enter your login details, in Skype window that opens you will see your contacts, the window for messaging and the ability to search new contacts and edit your profile.

Additionally, Skype will suggest you to install the plug-in at the top of the window so that you can use the voice and video calls in the browser (by default, you can only use text chat). If you close the notification, and you try to call someone on Skype via the browser, you will be reminded to install the plug-in.

Just click on “Get the plugin” link and the file will be downloaded to your computer.

Then just click on the file to install it.

After the installation of this plug-in, back to Skype window on the web. Choose one contact from the left side of Skype window, and click on the icon for video or audio call and you will see how it works.
