Taylor Swift Receives Honorary Degree from New York University

Swift obtained a Doctor of Fine Arts degree and spoke during the commencement ceremony, alluding to some of her big songs.

Taylor Swift is Having a Huge Day!

Swift, 32, gave her first graduating address and got an honoris causa Doctor of Fine Arts from NYU on Wednesday morning. In a ” doubleheader ” affair, the commencement ceremony celebrated the Classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 at Yankee Stadium in a “doubleheader” affair.

She walked up to the stage after receiving her award and made a 20-minute speech in which she shared personal tales, taught career knowledge, and informed the audience that errors are unavoidable.

“I was dancing in heels and a glittering leotard the last time I was in a huge stadium. This attire is a lot more relaxed. “Swift began by mentioning her 1989 hit song. “Let me say to all parents, family members, mentors, teachers, allies, friends, and loved ones here today who have supported these students: Welcome to New York. It’s been anticipating your arrival.”

Swift presented some of her finest “life hacks” and subsequently stated why she no longer believes in offering “advice,” admitting she never had a “typical college experience.” Life can be difficult to bear, especially if you attempt to carry everything at once. Part of growing up and moving into new chapters of your life is about to catch and release, she said. “Second, get used to living with cringe… I went through a phase in which I looked like a 1950s housewife for the full year of 2012. But, guess what? I was having a good time.”

The singer also reminisced on her meteoric climb to fame, recalling “thinly veiled cautions” from “older people” of the music industry and the media. “I grew up with the concept that if I didn’t make any errors, all of America’s children would be beautiful angels,” she explained. “However, if I make a mistake, the entire world will tumble off its axis, and it will be my responsibility, and I will spend the rest of my life in pop star jail.” Swift ultimately urged the grads to trust their “gut impulses” even when afraid.

“You will make mistakes from time to time. So shall I. And you’ll almost certainly hear about it on the internet once I do, “she said. “Things will go wrong for us. We’ll be OK. It will teach us something. As a result, we will become more robust.”

Tylor Swift is Feeling “Class of 2022”

She then ended her address in classic Swift style: “I hope you understand how honored I am to be able to spend this day with you. This is something we’re doing together. So let’s keep dancing as though we’re… the class of 2022.”

Swift’s “get ready with me” TikTok video, which premiered ahead of the Grammy Awards, began with a barefaced Swift sitting in the back of a car before rapidly panning to her in a short black dress with makeup (red lipstick, of course) and hair done — and slipping on her cheetah-print pump shoes.

The “Blank Space” singer then adjusted the hat on her head after zipping up her purple NYU gown. She then posed in front of a graduation banner and a giant birdcage full of books, a camera, and a Grammy trophy — as her father snapped photos of her getting ready to leave. Swift was revealed as the recipient of the prize and a speaker at the elite Manhattan institution in March.

In a statement, it called Swift “one of the most prolific and celebrated artists of her generation,” praising her numerous accomplishments, including being the only female artist to win album of the year three times at the Grammys and the only solo artist this century to have three albums reach No. 1 in the same year.

Swift has wished for an honorary doctorate for a long time. She was asked to mention a goal she’s driven to attain during her life in a Vogue 73 Questions interview released to YouTube in 2016. “I want an honorary doctorate because Ed Sheeran has one, and I feel like he looks down on me now that I don’t,” the “Shake It Off” singer stated.
