YouTube Will Test Your Knowledge With an Assignment after Watching an Educational Video

YouTube is currently testing a feature on its mobile app that enables users to take quizzes, generated by AI, to assess their comprehension of a subject discussed in a recently watched video. The objective is to facilitate the learning process for individuals who wish to delve deeper into topics of personal interest.

In an updated post, YouTube explains that if you’re a viewer participating in the experiment, you may notice AI-generated quizzes starting to appear on your app homepage. Certainly, this feature is not intended for comedy skit videos or movie content. Instead, these quizzes will be associated with a selection of Educational videos in English, serving as an opportunity for YouTube to gauge your acquired knowledge. Should you decide to take part in the quiz, the video you recently watched, which prompted the quiz, will be conveniently linked below it, allowing for easy navigation back to explore further on the topic.

You can consider this as an assignment following your learning journey. The system utilises generative AI to formulate questions that assess your comprehension and reinforce your knowledge of a specific topic, drawing from the clips you have watched within the app.

This is similar to what Google Search does when you research a topic on the internet. There have been instances where I had to participate in a quiz to answer the synonyms of certain words I encountered while using Google Search. Perhaps Google is taking a similar approach and implementing it on its video platform, YouTube.

YouTube creators produce a wide variety of content that is viewed by many individuals for educational purposes. A significant portion of YouTube’s user base relies on the platform as a convenient means to acquire new knowledge, whether it involves learning a new skill, programming language, or simply discovering time-saving techniques like tying a tie in 30 seconds or solving quadratic equations.

It will be intriguing to observe the impact of this upcoming feature on the learning experiences of genuine users and whether it will eventually become a permanent addition to the platform. Perhaps the platform might even introduce a leaderboard or similar elements to gamify the learning process.

This global experiment is being rolled out to a small percentage of viewers on both iOS and Android platforms who have recently watched a limited number of specifically selected educational videos in the English language.
