Hammered! Uber to pay 10 million dollars over background check

Uber has agreed to pay $10 million Dollars to settle a dispute over background checks of its drivers. The ride-hailing company claimed in an advert that its background checks ”are the most thorough in the industry.”

But according to district attorneys in San Francisco and Los Angeles, they stated that the advert was misleading as Uber did not take the fingerprints of drivers like other taxi companies. These fingerprints expose ex-traffic convicts even though this procedure is not compulsory for Uber.

Sequel to this, a Judge ordered Uber to pay $10 million dollars to Los Angeles and San Francisco counties within the next 60 days. In the event of any default in the next two years, it will pay an additional $15 million.

This fine comes on the heels of taxi operators in different parts of the world accusing Uber of taking over their taxi industry.
