FCA US Reports 9% Decline in Q1 Sales

FCA US LLC has reported sales of 368,237 vehicles for the first Quarter of 2023. Despite the overall decline in total U.S. sales of 9% compared to the same period last year, the North American automaker is seeing strong demand for its plug-in hybrid vehicles, with the Jeep® Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe ranking as America’s top-selling plug-in hybrid vehicles.

According to Jeff Kommor, U.S. Head of Sales for FCA US, the company is “making the necessary adjustments to meet our customer’s expectations” in the current market conditions. This includes focusing on its electric offerings, with the Alfa Romeo Tonale production starting soon and the arrival of the Dodge Hornet R/T in dealerships this spring.

The Dodge brand, in particular, has seen a significant increase in sales compared to the same quarter last year. Total U.S. sales for Dodge increased by 24%, with the Dodge Charger seeing a 43% increase, the Dodge Challenger a 2% increase, and the Dodge Durango up 22%.

Dodge has also recently announced the seventh and final “Last Call” special edition, the Challenger SRT Demon 170. This vehicle is being marketed as the world’s fastest, quickest, and most powerful muscle car ever produced. The company has fired up orders for the Challenger SRT Demon 170, and enthusiasts can expect to see the arrival of the Dodge Hornet R/T this spring.

The Chrysler brand has also seen an increase in total U.S. sales, with a 10% increase versus the same quarter last year. The Chrysler Pacifica saw a 10% increase in sales, with the Pacifica Hybrid accounting for 12% of the nameplate’s total sales for the first quarter. The Chrysler 300 also saw a 9% increase in sales compared to the same quarter last year.

Families looking for a support system and harmony in their chaotic lives have been the focus of the Chrysler brand’s Vanlightenment marketing campaign. The Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid are being promoted as the solution to the challenges that modern families face.

The Jeep brand has also had a successful first quarter of 2023, with total U.S. sales of the Jeep Cherokee up 31% compared to the same quarter last year. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe saw a 72% increase in sales over the same period, making it America’s top-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle. The Grand Cherokee 4xe, which went on sale in late 2022, accounted for 13% of Grand Cherokee U.S. sales in the first quarter of 2023, making it America’s second-best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle.

The Ram Truck brand has unveiled the all-new, all-electric Ram 1500 REV, and the Ram REV Insider+ Program. RamREV.com is now open to consumers, allowing them to reserve a place in line to pre-order the Ram 1500 REV. Ram commercial fleet vehicles also saw strong sales, with a 64% increase compared to the first quarter of 2022.
