How to Fix iTunes Error 3194 while restoring iOS on iPhone

We have come to know that many Iphone users are getting a panic Error while trying to update, restore or even syncing the iPhone. The irritating error is “iTunes Error 3194“. The Even Apple’s official troubleshooting and support page is not that much of helpful to fix this error and that may force you to not downgrade your iOS and the situation becomes even worse when your device is Jailbroken.

There are three common reason that causes 3194 error in iPhone. Please check below for more details.
  1. Some time Antivirus installed on your Pc causes such error. You should try to disable that for few time to check whether error is still showing or not.
  2. 2nd possible reason is Firewall. Firewall might blocking access to certain files.
  3. Last but most probable reason is Hosts file. In 80% cases Hosts file is the root cause and block access to validation server.

Hosts file problem is due to the outdated iTunes application software that misconfiguration your windows or mac hosts file.

How to fix the Error 3194 in your PC’s Hosts files?

The reason behind this error is the hosts file of iTunes. So you have to make a small change in the hosts file. 

Please follow the steps given here:

  • First of all locate the hosts file from your computer.
  • If you are using Windows operating system, It can be found at: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\
  • If you are running Mac OS, then the file can be found at /etc/.
  • Open the hosts file in a text editor such as notepad or wordpad.
  • Find the line 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com which is usually found at the bottom of the file.
  • Type a hash sign (#) before the line to make it comment or simply delete the line.
  • After that save the file without changing its name.
  • Now try updating or restoring your iPhone using iTunes and most probably you will not get the error.

Alternatively you can also follow the 2nd method. It will helpful only when you want to fix error in iTunes.
  • First of all quit from iTunes.
  • Now Download TinyUmbrella for Windows or OS X Computer.
  • Once you successfully download on your PC. You need to launch that. It need admin access on your PC.
  • Now, Select your iPhone and tap on Advance tab section.
  • Untick the box “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit”, It will help you for smooth and clean restore.
  • Save the settings and Apply these changes.
