在 Apple Watch Series 5 發布前，美國專利和商標局今天通過了幾項 Apple 公司申請的 Apple Watch 智慧錶帶專利，其中包括錶帶生物識別驗證、自動收緊和 LED 進度條等功能。
因為人體皮膚紋理的溝槽部分、皮毛部分以及周圍皮膚的溫度一般都各不相同，所以透過內建在 Apple Watch 錶帶上的 IR 紅外熱像傳感器來掃描佩戴者皮膚的溫度，從而實現生物識別認證。此功能無需在 Apple Watch 或配對的 iPhone 上輸入密碼即可解鎖手錶。
