Many of us seem to struggle with sticking to a weight loss plan. In beginning stages, it is very easy to be completely motivated to meeting our initial weight loss goals. Then, your motivation takes a hit and you just do not feel like you want to do this anymore and feel like you want to give up. This drop-off is not a sure thing for everyone, though. People do succeed in losing weight and keep it off for years. What is their secret to this success?
Before you start losing weight, you need to draw up a fitness plan and identify your goals. Would you enjoy feeling great in your clothes again or, better yet, shopping for new clothes that are several sizes smaller then your current size? Do you want to achieve a target weight? What is it that is really important to you about losing weight?
List your weight loss progress on a weekly basis. Use a journal to keep track of your weight weekly. In the same book, track your diet. Keep track of everything you eat to serve as a record of your daily consumption. The fact that you are writing it down will decrease the likelihood that you will desire it.
The worst thing you can do is make meal decisions when you are hungry. In order to avoid those last minute food decisions, you should plan what you are eating ahead of time and always have healthy snacks available. Pack a healthy lunch and brown-bag it instead of eating out to both save money and enjoy a more nutritious meal.
In order to lose weight you need to pay attention to not only your diet but also the amount of exercise you get. To maintain your motivation level, you need to select physical activities that you enjoy doing as part of your exercise plan. Some activities that you may want to try include joining a dance class or sports team, or going for a walk, run or swim with a friend. Making this work for you requires a bit of creativity, but it’s all worth it in the end when you meet your goals.
Make Junk Food hard to get your hands on. Try to not buy junk food at all. If you are surrounded by healthy foods, you will choose to eat healthily.
Inform others of your workout goals. They can support you when you need inspiration in reaching your weight loss goals. Tell them to firmly nudge you to get going again whenever you feel like you may stop.
